  • Patent number: 6815733
Abstract: The switching element has a switching layer between a first electrode layer and a second electrode layer. The switching layer includes a charge transfer complex containing an electron donor and an electron acceptor. An insulating layer is provided between the first electrode layer and the switching layer, and contacts the switching layer. The switching layer switches from a high-resistance state to a low-resistance state upon application of a voltage greater than a first threshold value in a first bias direction. Thereafter, the switching layer maintains the low-resistance state when the applied voltage decreases beyond the first threshold value. When the applied voltage becomes not smaller than a second threshold value in a second bias direction or a reverse direction to the first bias direction, the switching layer switches from the low-resistance state to the high-resistance state.

  • Patent number: 6538744
Abstract: According to the present invention, it is adapted to calculate simultaneously an absolute molecular orientation with an effective second order nonlinear optical constant in an object to be measured without changing a measuring point. Further, in order that a period of time required for measuring an absolute molecular orientation and an effective second order nonlinear optical constant in an object to be measured is reduced, whereby a possibility of damaging the object to be measured can be minimized, measurement is carried out by the use of a single light source in accordance with SHG phase method without shifting the measuring point of the; object to be measured, so that the absolute molecular orientation and the effective second order nonlinear optical constant can be calculated from a fitting curve achieved as a result of fitting the fringe obtained by the above described measurement.

  • Patent number: 6414089
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a polymer film having second order non-linear optical properties which has excellent stability of orientated molecules and does not become disorientated, and a polymer film and a non-linear optical element are provided. A polymer solution is placed between two substrates, which are disposed substantially perpendicular with respect to a rotating stand and substantially symmetrical with respect to a rotation axis of the rotating stand, and the rotating stand is rotated. A polymer film having second order non-linear optical properties is formed by the centrifugal force generated at the polymer solution.

  • Patent number: 5308704
Abstract: A cell adhesive material with excellent cell adhesion and cell proliferating property and a method for producing the same are provided. The adhesion and proliferation of cells can be improved remarkably by the surface modification of a cell adhesive material comprising a polymer material containing carbon as a constituting element, such as polystyrene or segmented polyurethane, wherein at least a part of the surface is modified by ion bombardment through ion implantation. The method for producing such cell adhesive material comprises implanting ions into at least a part of the surface of the polymer material. The cell adhesive material and the method for producing the same are promising for application to cell culture petri dishes and hybrid-type medicinal materials.
