  • Patent number: 7360356
Abstract: A main control computer commands a second sub-control computer to perform a reduced-cylinder operation when the coolant temperature detected by a coolant temperature sensor is greater than or equal to a reference temperature, and the exhaust temperature detected by a temperature sensor is less than a reference exhaust temperature and is within a reduced-cylinder operation allowable range in which a combination of the engine speed and the engine load is set in advance. The second sub-control computer deactivates a second cylinder group based on a command of the reduced-cylinder operation.

  • Patent number: 7353102
Abstract: An internal combustion engine includes parallel first and second intake passages, and the intake passages respectively include first and second superchargers. A first airflow meter measures the intake air amount in the first intake passage. A second airflow meter measures the intake air amount in the second intake passage. An ECU obtains an air amount difference between the intake air amount measured by the first airflow meter and the intake air amount measured by the second airflow meter to compare the obtained air amount difference with a predetermined abnormality determination value. The ECU determines that an abnormality has occurred in one of the superchargers when the air amount difference exceeds the abnormality determination value. The abnormality determination of the superchargers is based on the air amount difference between the intake passages. This accurately determines the occurrence of an abnormality in the superchargers regardless of structure of the intake passages.

  • Publication number: 20080047528
Abstract: A preset waiting period is previously set on the basis of a signal in correspondence to a detection of a start point of a detection of a no-tooth portion of a signal rotor. In the case of a control for injecting a fuel after the preset waiting period has elapsed, an output of a signal indicating a start point of an actual detection of the no-tooth portion by a waveform shaping portion is delayed due to the existence of the no-tooth portion. A control computer corrects the preset waiting period to be shorter by an amount corresponding the delay. Accordingly, an accuracy of a fuel injection start timing control is improved.

  • Publication number: 20070193564
Abstract: Catalysts are respectively provided in a plurality of parallel exhaust paths of an internal combustion engine. A flow rate adjusting section adjusts a flow rate of an exhaust gas discharged from a first exhaust path to a downstream side, and a flow rate of an exhaust gas supplied to an intake path from the first exhaust path via a first exhaust gas recirculating path. A control section controls the flow rate adjusting section in such a manner that a ratio of the flow rate of the exhaust gas discharged from the first exhaust path with respect to the flow rate of the exhaust gas discharged from the other exhaust paths than the first exhaust path becomes smaller in the case that a temperature of the catalyst exists in a preset low temperature region than in other cases. Accordingly, it is possible to achieve an early activation in at least one of a plurality of catalysts while avoiding an addition of mechanisms.

  • Publication number: 20070169763
Abstract: When conditions for regenerating purifiers are established, a control computer first causes an addition nozzle to supply a reducing agent to a first exhaust path. At this time, the control computer reduces a vane opening degree in a first supercharger and increases a vane opening degree in a second supercharger. Accordingly, the flow rate of exhaust gas discharged to the outside from the first exhaust path is reduced, and the flow rate of exhaust gas flowing to the intake path via a first exhaust gas supply path is increased. Also, the flow rate of exhaust gas discharged to the outside from a second exhaust path is increased, and the flow rate of exhaust gas flowing to the intake path via a second exhaust gas supply path is reduced. As a result, the purifiers are regenerated in a reliable manner, while suppressing variations in the flow rate of exhaust gas supplied to the intake path.

  • Publication number: 20070172397
Abstract: Collectors are provided on a pair of exhaust passages extending in parallel from an internal combustion engine respectively. Each of the collectors collects black smoke particles (unclean substance) included in exhaust gas. One of a pair of differential pressure detectors detects a first differential pressure between upstream and downstream of one of the collectors while the other differential pressure detector detects a second differential pressure between upstream and downstream of the other collector. Upon finishing a regeneration process of removing the black smoke particles in each of the collectors, a control computer estimates an exhaust gas flow rate of each of the exhaust passages based on the first differential pressure and the second differential pressure.

  • Publication number: 20070079607
Abstract: An internal combustion engine has a separate exhaust passage for each one of banks. An exhaust purifying catalyst is provided in each exhaust passage. The mass flow rates G1, G2 of exhaust gas that flow through the exhaust passages are individually estimated. The flow rate of exhaust gas is individually adjusted per each bank by controlling the operation of each one of exhaust gas recirculation valves such that the difference between the estimated mass flow rates G1, G2 is decreased.

  • Publication number: 20070022745
Abstract: Cylinder heads are each provided with a fuel injection valve, and an addition nozzle for adding fuel for activating an exhaust purifying catalyst to an exhaust manifold. There exists a non-exhaust period in which an exhaust gas does not flow out to exhaust passages from the exhaust manifolds during an operation of an engine. An ECU controls the addition nozzles in such a manner that the addition nozzles execute a fuel addition during periods except the non-exhaust period. Accordingly, the fuel added to the exhaust manifolds for activating the catalysts is avoided from collecting on a wall surface of an exhaust system without getting on an exhaust stream.

  • Patent number: 7066157
Abstract: A detecting device detects boost condition of each of a plurality of superchargers. The detecting device includes at least two of a pressure ratio detecting unit, which detects the ratio of the pressure downstream each supercharger to the pressure upstream each supercharger; an air flow rate detecting unit, which detects the flow rate of air passing through each supercharger; and a rotational speed detecting unit, which detects the rotational speed of each supercharger. When it is determined that the boost condition of only part of the superchargers is within the surging area, a control unit increases the air flow rate of the supercharger, the boost condition of which is determined to be in the surging area. Therefore, the limitation of the flow rate of air supply is raised.

  • Publication number: 20050274106
Abstract: In an exhaust gas control apparatus and exhaust gas control method for an internal combustion engine, in which fuel is supplied to a purification mechanism provided in an exhaust passage so that a function of the purification mechanism is recovered. A flow rate of exhaust gas flowing in the exhaust passage or a value correlated with the flow rate is detected, and fuel supply timing is controlled based on a result of the detection. Accordingly, even when the flow rate of the exhaust gas flowing in the exhaust passage is variously changed based on the engine operating state, the fuel supply timing can be set based on the flow rate that is appropriately detected. Thus, it is possible to appropriately convey the supplied fuel to the purification mechanism using force of the exhaust gas.
