Patent number: 5124361Abstract: A a polyaluminum dialkyl phosphate is disclosed. The compound is prepared by the reaction of:(A) a dialkyl phosphate represented by formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 independently represent a hydrocarbon group of a C.sub.8-26 carbon atom content, or a salt thereof, and(B) a basic polyaluminum salt represented by formula(II):Al.sub.m (OH).sub.n X.sub.1.kH.sub.2 O (II)wherein X represents an anion having a valency of x other than a hydroxyl ion, m represents a positive integer satisfying the equation: 3m=n+xl, and k represents 0 or a positive integer, in an aqueous medium in which the resulting polyaluminum dialkyl phosphate is insoluble. The polyaluminum dialkyl phosphate, when it is formulated into a liquid oil, provides a highly transparent, densely structured, soft gel which contains only small amount of free oil component. The above diglycerin dialkyl ether is readily prepared with high yield and purity by reacting its corresponding glycidyl ether with a protected glycerin to form a 1,3-dioxolan compound, followed by etherifying the thus formed 1,3-dioxolan compound into a dialkyl ether dioxolan compound, and then hydrolyzing the resultant dialkyl ether dioxolan compound. This diglycerin dialkyl ether is useful as an emulsifier, cleaner etc., and is preferably used as a component of cosmetic compositions.
