  • Patent number: 6374315
Abstract: The present invention relates to a data processing device which is also used as an interface device for connecting an external storage device to a host computer to which a card form of storage device can be connected, the external storage device differing in data format from the card form of storage device. The data processing device includes a connection unit for connecting the external storage device to the host computer, the connection unit being able to be removably fitted into a slot which is provided in the host computer and into which to removably fit the card form of storage device, and a converting circuit for converting data, which is to be outputted from the host computer in a data format conforming to the card form of storage device, into a data format conforming to the external storage device, as well as for converting data read out from the external storage device into the data format conforming to the card form of storage device.

  • Patent number: 6058089
Abstract: An external peripheral device connects through a flexible cable to an electrical connector which connects to a computer system. The flexible cable wraps around a cable wrap member that protrudes out of the peripheral device's housing, and the electrical connector snaps into a connector holder built into the peripheral device's housing. The cable wrap member and the connector holder permit the secure storage of the flexible cable and electrical connector during non-use or transportation of the device.

  • Patent number: 5257255
Abstract: A head for writing data into and/or reading data out of a recording medium such as a magnetic disc is displaced along a path by a motor such as a voice coil motor. The moving member of the motor is disposed on one side of the path, and another moving member of a speed sensor for detecting the head displacement speed is disposed on the opposite side. As a result, an unbalanced mass arrangement with respect to the path along which the head is displaced will not occur. The signal from the speed sensor can be used, for example, to interrupt a write operation if a mechanical impact occurs. Furthermore, even in an embodiment in which a coil is wound around the moving member of the speed sensor so that the head displacement speed is detected as a voltage induced across the coil as the head is displaced, the motor and the speed sensor are disposed in spaced-apart-relationship with each other and the speed sensor is less susceptible to adverse effects caused by the leakage flux from the motor.

  • Patent number: 5126905
Abstract: In a data writing and/or reading device in which data is written and/or read out from a rotating recording medium, a head carriage upon which one or more heads are mounted is guided by first and second guide rods to move in a predetermined direction with respect to the recording medium. A member for biasing the head carriage in the direction opposite the direction of a rotating force produced by the friction between the head or heads and the recording medium is provided. This force in the direction of rotation of the recording medium is counteracted so that deviation of the head in the direction of rotation of the recording medium is eliminated.

  • Patent number: 4950877
Abstract: An apparatus for transporting, cleaning or performing recording and/or reproducing of information from a card-like medium is disclosed. The recording medium includes an information recording area and a non-recording area. The transporting apparatus includes a receiving transport device and a discharging transport device. The receiving transport device transports the recording medium into and within the apparatus. The discharging transport device discharges the card-like information recording medium outside the apparatus and includes transporting the recording medium and stopping the recording medium such that the information recording area remains within the apparatus. The apparatus for cleaning the recording medium includes a cleaning device for cleaning the recording medium, a moving device for moving the recording medium relative to the cleaning device and a receiving device for receiving the recording medium in the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4937684
Abstract: An information recording-reproducing apparatus comprises a head, a first pair of rollers for guide-driving a recording medium relative to the head, a second pair of rollers for guide-driving the recording medium toward or from the first pair of rollers, and a controller for timingly controlling the first and second pairs of rollers. The first and second pairs of rollers are disposed at such an interval that the recording medium may not be caught by both of the first and second pairs of rollers at a constant velocity movement of the recording medium.
