  • Patent number: 6209441
Abstract: A brake booster includes reaction transmitting means comprising a first and a second retainer, a coiled spring disposed between the both retainers, and a stop which prevents the both retainers from being spaced from each other beyond a given distance. The brake booster also includes a valve mechanism comprising an annular first valve seat formed on the inner periphery of the valve body, a second valve seat formed on the rear portion of the valve plunger at a location radially inward of the first valve seat, and a valve element adapted to be seated upon either valve seat. A backup plate having a diameter less than the internal diameter of the first valve seat is embedded into the valve element. This arrangement allows a sufficient hysteresis to be obtained in a region where the valve element causes an expansion and shrinkage of the coiled spring in the reaction transmitting means to provide a better brake feeling than a conventional arrangement.

  • Patent number: 5943938
Abstract: A rubber damper is disposed between a valve plunger, which forms a valve mechanism of a brake booster, and a plate plunger. An air gap is defined around the outer and the inner periphery of the rubber damper to permit an elastic deformation of the rubber damper. When a brake pedal is further depressed under a servo balance condition, the valve plunger compresses the rubber damper, whereby it is driven forward. This arrangement allows a force of depression required when the brake pedal is further depressed under the servo balance condition to be reduced relative to the force of depression required in a conventional arrangement in which the valve plunger must be driven forward by compressing a reaction disc which is surrounded by an output shaft, a valve body and a valve plunger. As a consequence, the response of the brake booster is improved.

  • Patent number: 5862736
Abstract: The invention relates to a connection structure between a brake booster and a control valve which selectively introduces a negative pressure or an atmosphere into the booster. A brake booster of tandem type includes a front shell on which a pair of bosses are connected so as to extend parallel to each other. One end of one of the bosses is connected to a housing of the control valve while one end of the other boss is connected to the housing of the control valve through an L-shaped connection pipe. One end of the L-shaped connection pipe is rotatable with respect to one end of the other boss, and the other end of the L-shaped connection pipe is displaceable axially of the engaging opening in the housing during assembly. This construction allows the control valve to be assembled into the brake booster without requiring undue demand on the precision of the manufacturing various parts, while also minimizing the space required for the connection pipe.

  • Patent number: 5791227
Abstract: A control valve is disclosed which is capable of supplying a required control pressure to an actuator such as a brake booster, for example. The control valve includes a valve mechanism within a housing, and the valve mechanism comprises a piston which is associated with a solenoid. When the solenoid is excited, the piston is driven for movement to switch a flow path within the housing. In this manner, the atmosphere, acting as a control pressure, is introduced into a variable pressure chamber defined within the housing. The atmosphere which is introduced into the variable pressure chamber is arranged to push back the piston, so that a control pressure which depends on the magnitude of a current passing through the solenoid can be generated within the variable pressure chamber. As compared with a prior art arrangement, the control valve of the invention reduces the cost of the entire arrangement, and allows a piping arrangement for pressure fluid to be simplified.

  • Patent number: 5005464
Abstract: An open/close valve which opens or closes a passage providing a communication between a valve mechanism and a constant pressure chamber of a brake booster is disclosed. The valve comprises a valve seat formed in surrounding relationship with a passage, a valve element disposed within a casing which is mounted on the valve body so as to be reciprocably movable therein, and a pressure chamber defined within the casing for urging the valve element toward the valve seat. Pressure fluid supply means supplies a pressure fluid into the pressure chamber from the outside of a shell to cause the valve element to be seated upon the valve seat. As compared with the solenoid-operated valve, an axial size of the open/close valve can be reduced while avoiding any heating effect.

  • Patent number: 4966512
Abstract: In interconnecting construction between a bolt and a mounting plate such as a shell of a brake booster is disclosed. A sealing, annular projection is formed in an end face of a bolt head so as to surround a bolt shank which is formed with a serration. Both the annular projection and the serration are caused to bite into the opposite surfaces of the mounting plate, whereby an excellent sealing effect and locking action against rotation are simultaneously achieved.

  • Patent number: 4896699
Abstract: In a conventional solenoid valve, a solenoid coil is disposed on a spool of a non-magnetic material, which forms a magnetic path therefor. By contrast, according to the invention, a sleeve-shaped guide which is formed as part of a spacer of a magnetic material is fitted into the spool and a plunger is slidably fitted into the guide, so that the plunger and the spacer define part of the magnetic path for the solenoid, thus allowing an improved magnetic path to be defined.
