  • Patent number: 9032480
Abstract: At a web browser application installed on a device a first Uniform Resource Locator (URL) is received. The web browser application determines a first Access Point Name (APN) network identifier associated with the first URL and establishes a first data connection based on the first APN network identifier between the device and a network. At the web browser application installed on the device a second URL is received. The web browser application determines a second Access Point Name (APN) network identifier associated with the second URL and establishes a second data connection based on the second APN network identifier between the device and a network.

  • Patent number: 8989719
Abstract: A device receives, from an application server, a message destined for a user equipment, and reformats the message into a non-access stratum (NAS) transparent message. The device also provides, to a home subscriber server, a query for an identification of a mobility management entity serving the user equipment, and receives, from the home subscriber server, the identification of the mobility management entity serving the user equipment. The device further provides the NAS transparent message to the identified mobility management entity, where the mobility management entity forwards the NAS transparent message to the user equipment.

  • Publication number: 20150055446
Abstract: A first device associated with an evolved packet core network receives a first update request from a second device associated with the evolved packet core network. The first update request is associated with a communication session previously provided between the first device and the second device, and the first update request is generated based on a voice/video request. The first device generates an update answer in response to the first update request, where the update answer includes a code requesting that the communication session be restored between the first device and the second device. The first device receives, based on the code, a second update request from the second device, where the second update request includes session information associated with the communication session. The first device restores, based on the session information, the communication session between the first device and the second device to create a restored communication session.

  • Patent number: 8914011
Abstract: A method of permitting self-activation of a mobile device is presented. The device is able to be activated without accessing the Internet or relying on a customer service representative when a device with a SIM card is initially powered on. A device client resident on the mobile device detects that the SIM card is self-activation capable, and then provides a customized interface to walk the user through a self-activation process. The interface provides various features associated with the communication functionality of the device, whether or not the functionality is dependent on the make and model of the mobile device.

  • Publication number: 20140335815
Abstract: A policy and charging rules function node of a network may receive from the network an indication of an element of user equipment connecting to the network, query a subscription profile repository to receive a subscriber profile associated with the user equipment, the subscriber profile including indicators used in the selection of subscriber policies associated with the subscriber, and create a spending limit session based on the subscriber profile without waiting to receive a request from the user equipment for data services. The node may receive the request for data services from the element of user equipment, identify the spending limit session specifically corresponding to the user equipment, and respond to the request according to spending limit rules of the spending limit session associated with the element of user equipment. The node may also respond to the request according to default spending limit rules without waiting for creation of the spending limit session.

  • Patent number: 8706582
Abstract: A computer-implemented method may include associating a first bundle with a subscriber on a first subscription date, the first bundle defining a pre-paid service, a first renewal date, and a first renewal price. The method may include associating a second bundle with the subscriber on a second date different than the first subscription date and different than the first renewal date, the second bundle defining a feature, not defined in the first bundle, of the prepaid service and a second renewal price, the second bundle having the first renewal date. The method may also include renewing the first bundle and the second bundle on the first renewal date if a balance of an account associated with the subscriber is greater than or equal to the first renewal fee plus the second renewal fee.

  • Patent number: 8565722
Abstract: A home network may track data usage in real time by a wireless mobile communication device while roaming in a GSM network that is separate from the home network. A Home Location Register (HLR) may receive location information indicative of the location of the wireless mobile communication device in the GSM network. An Online Charging System (OCS) may receive the location information directly or indirectly from the Home Location Register. The Online Charging System may use this location information to determine data rates and cutoff limits which are consistent with subscriber plans and are based on the location of the mobile communication device. This information may be communicated to roaming subscribers in real time and/or used to cut off data communication.

  • Publication number: 20130231080
Abstract: Network status information is provided to a mobile device. The data usage of the mobile device is tracked. A data usage criterion is determined from an account for the mobile device. The account information is stored on at least one server. The data usage is compared with the data usage criterion. Based on the comparison, it is determined whether the data usage meets the data usage criterion. Upon determining that the data usage meets the data usage criterion, a notification message is sent to the mobile device in real time through an information element field within an existing message in a bearer channel of the wireless packet data communication network. The notification message may instruct the mobile device to prevent generation and/or transmission of automatic network access requests while allowing user-initiated network access requests.

  • Patent number: 8515392
Abstract: A method including receiving a network access request that includes an international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI) stored by a smart card associated with a user device; determining whether self-subscription to a service plan or reactivation of a suspended service plan is permitted based on self-activation data, wherein the self-activation data includes a mapping between IMSIs and data that indicates a granting or a denying of network access; selecting network access rights based on the self-activation data when it is determined that self-subscription to the service plan or reactivation of the suspended service plan is permitted; generating a temporary user profile based on the selected network access rights; and providing limited network access to the user device, wherein the limited network access permits a user to self-subscribe to the service plan or reactivate the suspended service plan.
