  • Patent number: 8637158
Abstract: The present invention relates to a polymerizable composition and to a method for coating metal surfaces, in particular steel, galvanized and alloy-galvanized steel, and also aluminum and alloys thereof, as protection against corrosion. The polymerizable composition preferably contains less than 10% by weight of portions which are not incorporated in the cured coating. In a further aspect, the invention relates to the use of the claimed composition for coating workpieces consisting of the above-mentioned metals, particularly metal surfaces in blanking lines (coil coating). The present invention therefore also comprises the use of metal surfaces, coated according to the invention, for the production of “white goods” (household appliances), automobile bodies, electronic component housings, and for the building trade and the transport sector.

  • Publication number: 20140023782
Abstract: The invention relates to a water-based can inner coating comprising a copolymer or a copolymer mixture of at least one aliphatic and acyclic alkene with at least one ?,?-unsaturated carboxylic acid in water-dispersed form, wherein the acid number of the copolymer or of the copolymer mixture is at least 20 mg KOH/g, but not more than 200 mg KOH/g, and at least one water-dispersed or water-soluble curing agent. Inventive can inner coatings are characterized in that due to the good crosslinking of the copolymer or of the copolymer mixture with the curing agent, the cured film on the inner surfaces of metal cans possesses excellent properties in regard to hardness, abrasion resistance and resistance towards hot liquids.

  • Patent number: 8425170
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for the bonded adhesion, or connection, of a plurality of wire-shaped individual elements into an arrangement, particularly into a wire band, wherein the adjacent individual elements have predetermined breaking points allowing for the mechanical removal of the individual elements. The bonded adhesion is brought about according to the invention utilizing a two-layer system on the basis of acrylate resins consisting of an inner coating (A) and of an outer coating (B), wherein the inner coating (A) has a lower hardness, than the outer coating. In a further aspect the invention also comprises arranging a plurality of wire-shaped individual elements through such a bonded connection, particularly a wire band.

  • Patent number: 7816434
Abstract: Process for the production on metal or plastic surfaces of thin, hydrolysis-resistant, scratch-resistant and stain-resistant coatings, wherein the coating material can be applied directly to the cleaned metal surface and subsequently cross-linked by high-energy radiation, in particular UV radiation. The substrates can be coated in the form of strip and only subsequently brought into the required external shape. Coated substrates such as these are no longer susceptible to staining by food, cleaning agents or fingerprints and can also be rendered antibacterial. Objects coated in this manner are thus suitable for use in architecture, for interior fittings of buildings, in furniture-making as well as for ornamental applications, and in particular in households, in sanitary applications, in hospitals and in the food-processing and pharmaceutical industries.

  • Publication number: 20070173593
Abstract: A new flatting agent for self-curing or radiation-curing coating systems is disclosed. The flatting agent is a liquid dimerdiol (meth)acrylate with a degree of esterification of at least 50%. The dimerdiol (meth)acrylate ester is introduced into the coating system in an amount of 1-25% by weight based on the coating system as a whole. The coating system can have additional solid flatting agents in the system.

  • Publication number: 20070167645
Abstract: The disclosed invention relates to mixtures of acrylic or methacrylic compounds containing 1 to 35% by weight and, more particularly, 5 to 25% by weight epoxy (meth)acrylates, based on the total quantity of acrylic or methacrylic compounds, the mixture being obtainable by a process comprising the following steps: a) esterifying hydroxyl compounds with acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid, b) optionally adding more acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid and c) reacting the excess acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid with epoxides in the presence of the esterification product of a). Said mixtures are suitable for use as radiation-curable compositions for coating systems, such as paints, coating compositions and the like.
