  • Publication number: 20050235029
Abstract: A method, a system, electric devices applying the method, and computer programs implementing the method are provided. According to the invention, a second set of information is communicated between electric devices over a wireless proximity interface, the second set of information being associated with a second user application of the second electric device. A correspondence indicator value characterizing the readiness of a first electric device and the second electric device to execute at least one command associated with a first user application and the second user application is evaluated on the basis of a first set of information and the second set of information, wherein the first set of information is associated with a first user application of the first electric device. On the basis of the correspondence indicator value, a decision is made whether to execute the at least one command.

  • Publication number: 20050198029
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of creating an ad-hoc connection between two electronic devices. In order to enable a particularly user-friendly creation of such a connection, it is proposed that a first device detects a hugging state between the first device and a second device, in which the first device and the second device are in close vicinity and a piece of information is received at the first device directly from the second device. In case a hugging state is detected, a handle is obtained proceeding from the received piece of information. The handle comprises an address of some device other than the first device. Finally, a communication channel is established between the first device and the other device using the address included in the handle. The invention relates equally to a corresponding device, to an expandable framework for such a device, and to a corresponding software program product.

  • Publication number: 20050186906
Abstract: A method, device, and system use Bluetooth-assisted communication in a wireless local area network (WLAN). The method includes communicating with a wireless network using a wireless local area network (WLAN) interface, establishing an inactive mode based on communication activity with the wireless network, communicating with the wireless network using a Bluetooth interface, and establishing an active mode based on communication activity with the wireless network. The inactive mode disables the WLAN interface and the active mode enables the WLAN interface.

  • Patent number: 6892052
Abstract: A RF-ID based wireless terminal has shortened session set-up and user identification time for conducting transactions with interactive service applications. The wireless terminal includes a terminal identification number and a user identification as a RF-ID tag. A RF-ID reader transmits a RF field for detecting the RF-ID tag in the terminal and provides an output signal when the terminal is within the reader field. The output signal establishes a connectionless communication to an access point or other terminal which initiates a wireless paging operation, in lieu of conducting a terminal discovery process, based upon the content of the RF-ID tag. The terminal initiates a wireless session between the terminal and the access point or terminal for conducting transactions with a service application linked to the access point or terminal.

  • Publication number: 20050003822
Abstract: A method and corresponding equipment providing automatic bearer selection so that a user of a telecommunications device (11) can establish a connection with another user without having to indicate a bearer to use, i.e. in case the other user is reachable using different bearers (communication technologies) such as Bluetooth, UTRAN or WLAN, and even in case the other user can be reached via more than one telecommunication device. To enable a device (11) to automatically select a bearer for providing a connection (14) to a second device (12), the method includes: a step (24) in which the first device (11) refers to a contacts bearer data store (11d 11d?) accessible to the first device (11) to obtain a list of at least two possible bearers for providing the connection (14); and a step (28) in which the first device (11) selects one of the at least two possible bearers based on a predetermined selection strategy (11b).

  • Publication number: 20040176032
Abstract: A RF-ID based wireless terminal includes a reader device with transponder functionality implementing ECMA 340 standard for near field communication and has shortened session set-up and user identification. The reader device is operable in an active communication mode or a passive communication mode. During the active mode, one RF-ID tag reader simulates a RF-ID tag while the other simulates a RF-ID tag reader. The reader includes a transponder, which operates during periods of time when the reader is not energized. A radio frequency interface provides signal for operation of the reader in the reader operation mode or transponder mode of operation. An RF-ID reader upon receiving a response signal from a semi-passive or active RF-ID tag of reader emulating a tag informs the terminal CPU which instructs the short-range communication to enter e.g. a page scanning mode which shortens session set-up time and user identification.

  • Publication number: 20040002896
Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for collecting usage data to assist an advertiser with a targeted marketing activity wherein the advertiser accesses the usage data to determine an appropriate advertisement for a second user. The method comprises receiving a data resource from a communications network, storing the data resource, displaying the data resource for a first user, extracting usage data that relates a characteristic of the first user to a characteristic of the data resource, and storing the usage data. The method may further comprise requesting the data resource.

  • Publication number: 20030218532
Abstract: The invention relates to a portable, electronic device such as a mobile phone. The device is provided with a transponder and may be used for authentication purposes. The device includes means for writing user-specific information into a memory unit, included in the transponder. Thus, when an interrogating reading device stimulates the transponder, the transponder emits the user-specific information. This enables authentication of a user rather than of a device. In a preferred embodiment use is made of a user-specific key, by means of which a single-use code is generated, which is used as the emitted user-specific information. The invention also relates to a method and a system, which may work in connection with such a device.
