  • Patent number: 9994053
Abstract: A user defines the real costs for each of the individual inks used in printer and also defines a tolerance level for visual acceptance, defined in CIE units of DeltaE2000. Then, an algorithm performs a search through all nodes of the device link profile and for each node it tries to find an ink combination that creates less costs and is still within the given visual tolerance (<dE2000).
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 29, 2016
Date of Patent: June 12, 2018
    Assignee: ELECTRONICS FOR IMAGING, INC.
    Inventor: Holger Schuppan

  • Patent number: 8861053
Abstract: Techniques are provided that include an algorithm and a computing device using such algorithm to compute a white ink separation channel from the CMYK or RGB data from a print pipeline as an input. This input originally corresponds to print data on a media with standard whiteness, e.g. standard whiteness corresponding to a diffuser used by the Comission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) 1964 media whiteness formula. In an example implementation, the white ink channel computed by the computing device using such algorithm may be printed as a pre-coat on a colorimetrically different media which does not comply with definitions and formulae of CIE's whiteness and tint.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: October 14, 2014
    Assignee: Electronics For Imaging, Inc.
Inventors: Srikrishna Nudurumati, Holger Schuppan, Ranjith Ramachandran
  • Patent number: 8810876
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided by which optimum usage of available color space of an output device, e.g. an inkjet printer or laser printer, is achieved. Gamut compression is dynamically computed by being dependent on contents of a print job, as opposed to only using pre-calculated or static tables or ICC rendering intents.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 31, 2011
Date of Patent: August 19, 2014
    Assignee: Electronics for Imaging, Inc.
    Inventors: Philippe Koehl, Holger Schuppan
  • Patent number: 8730525
Abstract: The screened printing data are subjected to a filtering method, the raster information being maintained. Intermediate tonal values are produced by the filtering method, using the binary tonal values, the intermediate tonal values being configured in such a way that, by means of a color space transformation, transformed tonal values and/or intermediate tonal values can be formed which represent a true-to-color proof.

Date of Patent: May 20, 2014

  • Publication number: 20060196378
Abstract: The invention relates to a printing device and a method of operating the printing device, it being possible for the following steps to be carried out: printing a calibration print by means of the printing device, the calibration print having a plurality of measuring areas with different colour mixture relationships, spectrophotometric measurement of the measuring areas, producing a colour profile, the spectrophotometric measurement of the measuring areas being carried out at a plurality (N) of measuring times (Tn), producing a colour profile which is extended by a description of the behaviour over time and which comprises a plurality of colour profiles in each case associated with a measuring time, and setting the colour mixture relationships of the printing device on the basis of the colour profile extended by a description of the behaviour over time.

  • Patent number: 6866434
Abstract: In a method of monitoring a printing parameter of a printer, as well as a corresponding printing system, printing data are printed out, before being transmitted to a printer, by means of a further printer. The further printer is coupled to a sensor arrangement and monitored by means of a control unit, for determining desired values by using the printout produced by the further printer. By using this printout, a predetermined criterion is determined for a comparison of the printing parameter.
