  • Patent number: 5838994
Abstract: A method for managing buffer memory in a communications controller that transmits data over a plurality of channels wherein the buffer memory comprises a memory space of B.sub.total. A first subset of the memory space B.sub.total is location to queues associated with each of the plurality of channels. A second subset of the memory space B.sub.total is reserved for allocation to queues associated with channels that are activated to transmit data. Any remaining memory space from the memory space B.sub.total is specified as free for allocation to any queue associated with a channel that is activated to transmit data.

  • Patent number: 5765032
Abstract: A method for queuing and servicing egress traffic of a network. A first set of n egress queues that are each coupled to store frames received from a corresponding one of a set of n receive channels are provided, and a distinct set of queuing parameters is maintained for each of the first set of n egress queues. A second set of m egress queues each coupled to store frames for transmission to a corresponding one of a set of m transmit channels are also provided, wherein m is less than n. The first set of n egress queues are serviced to fill the second set of m egress queues using a first service algorithm and the sets of queuing parameters for each of the first set of n egress queues.

  • Patent number: 5678006
Abstract: A network that implements a network management protocol. The network comprises a network manager coupled to a plurality of network nodes. Each network node has a network address to which the network manager addresses network management messages for controlling the configuration of the network nodes. The plurality of network nodes include a first network node. The first network node includes a plurality of management agents and a message forwarding circuit coupled to the management agents, wherein the network manager transmits a management message to the network address of the first network node and the message forwarding circuit forwards the management message to a first management agent specified by the management message.
