  • Patent number: 4952255
Abstract: An extrudable plastic bonded explosive molding powder is provided and conns about 20 percent by weight ethylenevinyl acetate copolymer and 80 percent by weight PETN.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 2, 1984
Date of Patent: August 28, 1990
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Navy
    Inventor: Horace D. Stanton
  • Patent number: 4445948
Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved explosive TNT based composit consisting of TNT, HDX, RDX, aluminum and a small amount of an elastomeric linear polymer having polar groups dissolved or dispersed throughout, said composition having improved properties. Such improved properties include: reduced cracking and exudation, improved friction sensitivity, sympathetic detonation and enhanced cook-off hazard properties.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 7, 1982
Date of Patent: May 1, 1984
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Navy
Inventors: Horace D. Stanton, Russell Reed, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4385948
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for preparing an in situ cured ster explosive by mixing explosive crystals with a prepolymer solution comprising a carboxyl (or hydroxyl)-terminated hydrophobic polyester and epoxidized linseed oil with chromium octanoate as a catalyst. The explosive mixture is pressed into desired size and cured at 60.degree. C. to 70.degree. C. for about 96 hours. The resulting in situ cured explosive has desirable safety and physical properties.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 7, 1980
Date of Patent: May 31, 1983
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Navy
Inventors: Russell Reed, Jr., May L. Chan, Horace D. Stanton
  • Patent number: 4090894
Abstract: Ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer resins are used as desensitizers and bins of moldable explosive compositions of cyclic nitramines, such as RDX. 82 - 98 weight percent binder is used and various ratios of ethylene to vinyl acetate moieties in the resin are used to modify molding and extrusion properties.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 21, 1977
Date of Patent: May 23, 1978
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Navy
Inventors: Russell Reed, Horace D. Stanton
