  • Patent number: 8888718
Abstract: The stability of an animal joint, especially a knee, is assessed with an arrangement having track arranged about perpendicular to the axis of the distal portion; a cart slidably engaged to the track; a fork positioned on the cart; a support adapted to receive the distal linear portion, the support connected to the fork; a lever arm connected to the support, the lever arm positioned to rotate the support about the axis of the distal portion; and at least one instrumented handle, the instrumented handle detachably engages at least one of the cart and the lever arm. In some embodiments, the fork can rotate freely on the cart. Additionally, in various embodiments, the cart may be selectively locked at a position along the length of the track. In various embodiments, the arrangement further comprises: a bracket rigidly attached to the distal portion and positioned between the support and the joint; and the at least one instrumented handle detachably engages the bracket.

  • Patent number: 5766057
Abstract: Grinding and regulating wheels are carried on opposed feed slides on a machine base. A workrest is fixed to the base between the opposed wheels. Wheel dressers are mounted to cross-slides on the base, behind the wheels, independent of the feed slides. CNC dressing occurs through combined transverse motions of feed slide (with wheel) and cross slide (with dresser).

  • Patent number: 4730596
Abstract: A dressing roll unit is supported on a nonrotating shaft clamped and maintained as a "fixed end" beam, thereby restrained against axial movement and deflection. The shaft is formed with spaced-apart bearing points, wherein wedge-shaped relief sectors are formed about the shaft at the bearing points, and a roll body is maintained about the bearing points with an annular clearance. Rotation of the dressing roll body and roll thereby forms high pressure hydrodynamic wedges of oil at the relief sectors and annular clearances, to create an extremely rigid roll mounting unit, without the need for pivoting bearing parts.

  • Patent number: 4611934
Abstract: A spindle is rotatably mounted within a housing on spaced-apart antifriction bearings. The inner races of the bearings are held solidly against shoulder portions of the spindle and the outer race of the front bearing is mounted against a shoulder in the housing. The outer race of the rear bearing is supported in a circular diaphragm concentric with the spindle axis, which may be flexed along the axis to load the bearings against one another. A hydraulic chamber is formed against the diaphragm to load the diaphragm at preselected intervals, and a stop plate is provided in the housing to limit movement of the outer race is a distance corresponding to a maximum preload in the bearings. When the stop plate is contacted, hydraulic pressure may be greatly increased to further load the diaphragm and its corresponding outer race solidly against the stop plate without further increasing the preload in the bearing set, providing a high holding force resistant to spindle pull out.
