  • Publication number: 20210274829
Abstract: A method of treating cut stem tobacco material by expanding the cut stem to provide a first expanded tobacco material having a fill value at least about 10% greater than the fill value of the untreated cut stem tobacco material; intermittently contacting the first expanded tobacco material with a heated surface to provide a second expanded tobacco material with a moisture content of from 0 to about 10% OV and a fill value at least 5% greater than the fill value of the first expanded tobacco material; and (c) adjusting the moisture content of the second expanded tobacco material from about 5% to about 30% OV to provide an expanded product, wherein the fill value of the expanded product is at least 50% greater than the fill value of the untreated cut stem tobacco material when measured at a normalized moisture content of 14.5% OV.

  • Patent number: 8113217
Abstract: The invention relates to a filter-tip cigarette with a tobacco rod (1) wrapped in a cigarette paper and a filter (6) wrapped along its length in tipping paper (4) or other wrapper being other than plugwrap, and a strip of material (5) fully covering the tipping paper of the filter and the cigarette paper of the wrapped tobacco rod in the region of the abutment between tobacco rod and filter bonds together the filter and tobacco rod. In addition, the invention relates to a process for the manufacture of such a filter, which may also be employed for the manufacture of ‘double unit cigarettes’.
    Type: Grant

  • Publication number: 20100319718
Abstract: The invention concerns a smoking article filter plug (16) for a cigarette, the filter plug being cylindrical and having a plug wrap (18), grooves (20) being impressed into the plug wrap, and a tipping paper (22) for the attachment of the filter plug to the tobacco rod (12). Some grooves are axially extending with respect to the axis of the filter plug and are open on the side of the tobacco rod and extend continuously only over a part of the length of the filter plug. All grooves are covered by a ventilated tipping paper, which allows ventilating air into the axially extending grooves only. In addition, the invention concerns the use of such a filter for the reduction of the CO/tar ratio as a function of the filter ventilation.
