  • Patent number: 6442151
Abstract: A method of assigning a channel to a service in a wireless communications network based on interferences levels and channel quality. Channels are preassigned and then reassigned using an algorithm that assigns a channel to a service based on uplink interference and channel quality measurements. Reassignment can be achieved in one processing pass, rather than requiring multiple iterations.

  • Patent number: 6240275
Abstract: A telecommunications system and method is disclosed for assigning channels based upon interference and channel quality measurements. The interference level measurements are carried out on the uplink of the cellular network. Channels are categorized in accordance with interference bands depending upon the interference levels. Incoming service is pre-assigned to a channel in the highest available interference band and a channel quality measurement (CQM) is conducted. The service is either continued (assigned) on the same channel, reassigned to a channel with lower interference or dropped if no other channel with lower interference is available based upon the channel quality measurement and the interference bands having available channels.

  • Patent number: 6195554
Abstract: A method (40) and device (42) for assigning transmission channels in a wireless communications network (38). The frequencies of the network (38) are discriminated to determine which transmission channels have a predetermined blocking threshold of interference. A transmission channel is preassigned with a channel quality less than the predetermined blocking threshold of interference to an incoming call. The channel quality and interference level of the preassigned transmissions channel are continually monitored, and another transmission channel is assigned to the call when the monitored levels of channel quality and interference levels change beyond a set of predetermined thresholds. Forward and backwards channel reassignments are performed depending on the channel quality and interference levels.

  • Patent number: 5912876
Abstract: A method for channel response estimation over a fast fading channel and signal estimation using a coded pilot is disclosed. A coded orthogonal frequency division modulated (OFDM) signal is generated including a main signal portion and a coded pilot signal portion. The coded OFDM signal is transmitted over a fading channel to a receiving unit wherein the received portion of the main signal is detected and an estimation is made of the frequency response of the fading channel using the coded pilot signal portion of the transmitted signal. The detected received main signal and the estimated channel frequency response are then used to estimate the signal. This determination may be based upon a channel inversion of the frequency response or new channel estimation combined with maximum likelihood sub-sequence estimation.
