  • Publication number: 20070035152
Abstract: An apparatus for opening and closing a cover of a truck is disclosed. The apparatus includes a rotatable shaft that can be connected to multiple support anchors in order to provide a torsion force to each of the supports to pivotably rotate the supports and the cover between an opened position and a closed position. The support anchors are attachable to the cover and are pivotably attached at an end of each support to the rotatable shaft. A plurality of offset hinges pivotably attaches the shaft to the container and rotatably receives the shaft. An actuator is used to provide rotary motion to the shaft. The actuator includes hydraulic cylinders and a chain and sprocket for converting linear motion of the cylinder to rotary motion of the shaft.

The apparatus includes a rotatable shaft that can be connected to multiple supports in order to provide a torsion force to each of the supports to pivotably rotate the supports and the cover between an opened position and a closed position. The shaft is hexagonal in cross-section. The supports are attachable to the cover and are pivotably attached at an end of each support to a side of the container, for supporting the cover and moving the cover between an open position and a closed position. A plurality of hinges are used to pivotably attach the supports to the container and to rotatably receive the shaft proximate to and parallel to the one side of the container. An actuator is used to provide rotary motion to the shaft. The actuator includes a hydraulic cylinder and a chain and sprockets for converting linear motion of the cylinder to rotary motion of the shaft.

  • Patent number: 5497642
Abstract: An apparatus and method for forming precision surface shapes on shaft-like parts comprises a pair of substantially cylindrical and rotatable dies having forming surfaces located adjacent a shaft-like part therebetween. The shaft-like part is located in a size control ring according to this invention and is concentric with an axis of rotation of the size control ring. Each of the dies includes a size control surface that pressurably engages the size control ring. The size control ring is sized so that the forming surfaces are located at a predetermined forming depth in the shaft-like part when a predetermined level of preload force is applied between the size control surfaces and the size control ring. It is contemplated that the size control ring experiences elastic deflection upon application of the predetermined preload. A size adjustment mechanism is provided to vary the preload applied by the dies on the size control ring and the part.

  • Patent number: 4571972
Abstract: Skewed-axis cylindrical-die rolling method for the production of combined screw-thread and gear-tooth forms on the external surface of bars using multi-element dies which progressively form the screw thread and then the gear teeth on a portion of the screw thread in which the gear-tooth forming die element is free-rotating and the other die elements are driven.

  • Patent number: 4463588
Abstract: Skewed-axis cylindrical-die rolling system for the production of continuously threaded rod and similar continuous helical forms using two driven forming dies and an annular formed support roller which supports the part being formed a controlled distance below the line of centers of the forming dies.

  • Patent number: 4322961
Abstract: A machine for the rolling of cylindrical forms such as threads, worms, serrations, and annular forms, using two cylindrical dies whose axes are parallel or slightly skewed with respect to the axis of rotation of the workpiece, wherein the dies are supported on pivoting arms whose pivot points are cooperatively adjustable about a fixed horizontal centerline to provide for work diameter and die size changes. Workpiece size adjustment is achieved by a micrometer drawbar which can be either fixed for thru-feed work or hydraulically or mechanically actuated for infeed work. The dies are cooperatively driven by a central gearbox consisting of a hollow distributor gear flanked by two spindle drive gears, said drive gears being connected to the ends of the die spindles by universal joints.

  • Patent number: 4207785
Abstract: A machine for turning successive axially fed work pieces at both ends simultaneously by means of a double-ended segmentally actuated collet construction wherein one collet has a fixed collet chuck and the other has a movable collet chuck; and rigidly controlled and guided means to move the latter to simultaneously close both collets in combination with a tool slide which is considerably longer than the distance between the collets and along which are adjustably mounted a plurality of turning tools, and which is actuated in timed relation to the feed and collet actuation. A single cam shaft with adjustable cams controls all motions.
