  • Patent number: 8808223
Abstract: A device (1) for controlling the rate of flow of a fluid such as fluid which is diverted from a part of a human or animal body. The device comprises: an inlet (2); an outlet (4); and a resistance member (6), operatively connected to the inlet (2) and the outlet (4), the resistance member (6) comprising: a first plate (8), a surface of which comprises a groove which defines a resistance flow channel, an entry of the flow channel being in fluid communication with the inlet (2) and an exit of the flow channel being in fluid communication with the outlet (4); and a second plate (12), the second plate being held in abutment with the grooved surface of the first plate (8) so as to define a resistance (tube 14).

  • Patent number: 8517974
Abstract: A valve assembly for adjusting the flow of bodily fluid from one part of a human body to another includes a body portion having a flow inlet and a flow outlet. A valve located in a flow path from the inlet to the outlet includes a valve seat and a closing element that is adapted to seal against the valve seat. A carrier element is mounted within the body portion and has a plurality of pockets. Each pocket houses a respective preload element, wherein each preload element is of a different weight from that of the other preload elements. The carrier element is moveable relative to the body portion so as to align a preload element of a desired weight with the closing element. The self weight of the chosen preload element applies a preload to the closing element dependent on the orientation of the valve assembly.

  • Publication number: 20120317699
Abstract: The invention discloses a foldable rain hat for keeping hair dry. The rain hat includes a body having a rim, the rim defining the opening of a bowl for placing on the top of a user's head. The bowl is closed at its top by a crown. The rain hat further includes a snood that extends substantially downward from the body. Within the snood is a pocket that is adapted to keep a portion of the user's hair dry. The body and the snood may be made from a flexible material such that the body is foldable into the pocket and closed using a securing device such as a zipper.

  • Patent number: 7219861
Abstract: A method and system are described for controlling the flight pattern of a remote controlled aircraft. The system includes a microcontroller that is linked to an accelerometer for determining the attitude of the aircraft and modifying signals to the aircraft's flight control system in order to prevent a crash. In addition, several preset flight patterns are stored in a memory so that upon activation, the aircraft will enter a preset flight pattern.

  • Publication number: 20060060335
Abstract: A heat exchanger for donating heat from one fluid stream to another fluid stream, comprising a plurality of compound heat exchanger plates, each plate having a corrugated heat exchange portion and a header portion which is not corrugated, the heat exchange portion being a separate component from the header portion, and being joined permanently to the header portion, respective plates being joined together to form heat exchanger cells. A heat exchanger plate may be formed in a method having the following steps: (a) forming a heat exchange portion, which is of corrugated cross section; (b) forming a header portion, which is not corrugated; and (c) joining the header portion permanently to the heat exchange portion to form a compound plate.

  • Patent number: 6139725
Abstract: An oil reclamation device includes a full flow filter (10) fitted around a partial flow filter (12) within an open-ended casing (8). The open end of the casing is capped by a housing defining a vaporization chamber (6). In normal operation, oil flows from oil passage (14) through the full flow filter (10) to a branched leg (22). A metering jet (34) provided in the branched leg allows a minor portion of the oil to flow through the partial flow filter and then into the vaporization chamber. The full flow filter extracts solid contaminants having a particle size of 15 microns or greater. The partial flow filter extracts solid contaminants of 1 micron or greater. The filter element of the partial flow filter is composed of compressed cotton fibers and preferably has a higher density in an upper end adjacent the vaporization chamber. In the vaporization chamber, liquid contaminants are removed from the minor portion by a heating element (72).
