  • Patent number: 5597557
Abstract: A process for making solid colored particles by preparing a reaction solution in water comprising formaldehyde, urea, a cyclic polyamine functional triazine compound, and acid. A dye can be incorporated into the reaction solution if a color other than white is desired. Particles are formed having an average particle size between 1 and 70 microns without the need to resort to crushing to break up agglomerates. Particles made by this process provide excellent color and are easily washable from a substrate when incorporated into a washable formulation.Additionally, it has been found that the incorporation of colored microcapsules of average size of 1-70 microns where the color is located primarily on or in the shell of the microcapsule also provides excellent washable compositions when incorporated into a washable formulation.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 1, 1995
Date of Patent: January 28, 1997
Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company
Inventors: Kanta Kumar, Robert A. Davis, Sheila M. Nichols, Howard J. Buttery
  • Patent number: 5460805
Abstract: Body powder is provided having microcapsules with a colorant located in or on the shell of said microcapsule. The microcapsules are present in an amount effective to impart color to the body powder when viewed in bulk and to substantially decrease in perceptible color upon rubbing said body powder on the skin.

  • Patent number: 5405618
Abstract: A biomosaic polymer is provided. Biologically active materials are bound at surfaces of such polymers polymerized from emulsions containing hydrophobic polymerizable monomers, such biologically active materials, and surface active agents. The biomosaic polymers may be formed into membranes, films, beads, or other structures for a variety of assays, bioseparations, or catalyzed reactions and other uses. A single step polymerization of the emulsion provides significant retention of the biologically active material bound and congregated at surfaces of the polymer.

  • Patent number: 5188753
Abstract: Perfume particles comprise perfume dispersed within certain water-soluble polymeric carrier materials and encapsulated in a protective shell by coating with a friable coating material. The coated particles allow for preservation and protection of perfumes which are susceptible to degradation or loss in storage and in harsh cleaning conditions. In use, the surface coating fractures and the underlying carrier/perfume particles efficiently deliver a large variety of perfume types to fabrics or other surfaces.

  • Patent number: 5154842
Abstract: Perfume particles comprise perfume dispersed within certain water-insoluble nonpolymeric carrier materials and encapsulated in a protective shell by coating with a friable coating material. The coated particles allow for preservation and protection of perfumes which are susceptible to degradation or loss in storage and in cleaning compositions. In use, the surface coating fractures and the underlying carrier/perfume particles efficiently deliver a large variety of perfume types to fabrics or other surfaces.
