  • Patent number: 9182112
Abstract: A lighting system for an appliance includes a panel having a side and an exposed edge, a light source positioned in proximity to the exposed edge of the panel, and a coating disposed over a surface of the side of the panel. The coating is configured to allow light to diffuse from the coated side of the panel and the panel is located remotely from the light source.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 19, 2010
Date of Patent: November 10, 2015
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Justin T. Brown, Howard James Oagley
  • Patent number: 9125244
Abstract: An induction cooktop appliance includes a housing having an air intake opening and an air exhaust opening, the air intake opening and the air exhaust opening defining an air cooling circulation path, an induction cooktop disposed on top of the housing, electronics for the induction cooktop disposed within the housing, and a vent tube having a first end and a second end, the vent tube being disposed in the cooling air circulation path and configured to segregate air entering the air intake opening from air exiting the air exhaust opening.

Date of Patent: September 1, 2015
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Howard James Oagley, Mark Davis Johnson, Daniel Stephen Frazer, David Joseph Najewicz
  • Patent number: 9057527
Abstract: A range hood is provided that allows the user to select between venting to the exterior of a kitchen space versus recirculating air that is drawn over e.g., a cook top. Features are provided whereby the user can readily switch between such options for gas flow. A filter can also be provided whereby the user can readily select between different filter media depending upon the mode of gas flow selected.

    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Howard James Oagley, Mark Davis Johnson
  • Patent number: 8997732
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the thermal protection of LED light modules in a range hood appliance is provided. If the temperature of the LED light module reaches a predetermined temperature, one or more protective actions are taken to prevent over heating the LED light module. Such protective actions can include e.g., decreasing and/or terminating the power to the LED light module, opening a damper to provide air for cooling the LED light module, and/or activating a fan to provide forced convection cooling of the LED light module.
