  • Publication number: 20070018120
Abstract: In a complex, multi-processor software controlled system, such as proton beam therapy system (PBTS), it may be important to provide treatment configurable parameters that are easily modified by an authorized user to prepare the software controlled systems for various modes of operation. This particular invention relates to a configuration management system for the PBTS that utilizes a database to maintain data and configuration parameters and also to generate and distribute system control files that can be used by the PBTS for treatment delivery. The use of system control files reduces the adverse effects of single point failures in the database by allowing the PBTS to function independently from the database. The PBTS accesses the data, parameters, and control settings from the database through the system control files, which insures that the data and configuration parameters are accessible when and if single point failures occur with respect to the database.

  • Publication number: 20070016508
Abstract: A method for redeeming a merchant-issued voucher having a potential future value and redeemable during a voucher redemption period is provided. A merchant provides voucher issuance information and merchant fees for a voucher redemption period. During an investment period, an investment amount is invested representing a percentage of the merchant fees, in order to generate an investment revenue amount. Following the investment period, a total redeemable amount is received for the voucher redemption period, representing the investment amount and a percentage of the investment revenue amount. During the voucher redemption period, for at least some of the issued vouchers, receiving a voucher claim for the potential future voucher value and processing the voucher claim using the voucher issuance information, to pay out, from the total redeemable amount, a payout amount up to the potential future voucher value.

  • Patent number: 6101814
Abstract: A low emissions combustor can 18 for an aircraft gas turbine engine includes a louvered combustor liner 24 with three arrays of dilution holes 52, 54, 56. The first hole array comprises twelve equally sized, equiangularly distributed holes that penetrates the liner about midway along its axial length. The second hole array comprises twelve equally sized holes, smaller than the holes of the first array, that penetrate the liner a predetermined distance aft of the first hole array. The holes of the second array are equiangularly distributed and each second hole is circumferentially aligned with a first hole. A third hole array penetrates the liner a predefined distance aft of the first array. The third holes are nonuniformly sized and nonequiangularly distributed to regulate the spatial temperature profile of combustion gases exiting the combustor can. The quantity, size, distribution and location of the holes mitigates undesirable exhaust emissions without affecting the performance or durability of the engine.

  • Patent number: 4688988
Abstract: A coolable stator assembly formed of wall segments 36 for bounding a working medium flow path 14 is disclosed. The wall segments extend circumferentially about the working medium flow path and are circumferentially spaced leaving a clearance gap G therebetween. A duct 148 for cooling air is formed by the facing sides 144, 146 of the wall segments and a pair of radially spaced seal elements such as an inner seal plate 134 and an outer air seal plate 136. In one embodiment, a primary flow path for cooling air extends radially outwardly of the wall segments and the working medium flow path extends radially inwardly of the wall segments. The duct is pressurized with cooling air from an adjacent location at an intermediate pressure between the primary flow path 32 and the working medium flow path 14.
