    Abstract: A DC-DC power converter having a power transformer primary winding and a secondary winding producing a regulated output using a control technique and circuit to control the magnetic flux reset time of the core of the power transformer. The control circuit for the power converter provides control of the on and off time of the power transformer by controlling the magnetic flux reset voltage produced on the secondary winding, thereby controlling the duty cycle of the power transformer, and thereby regulating the output of the power transformer. Because control of the power transformer is accomplished by controlling the secondary winding reset voltage, input-to-output isolation and improved converter stability is provided. Minor variations to the input section of the DC-DC converter allows for a wide range of input voltages. Minor variations to the control circuit configuration provide the capability for short-circuit protection and inrush current limitation.

This cell also has control-in and control-out terminals whereby multiple cells are intercoupled to operate in synchronization with each other as a versatile system of cells. Manufacturing cost is reduced by utilizing a simply configured single-turn high-frequency transformer in each cell, and by operating at efficiencies that reduce cooling requirements.

    Abstract: A single-ended DC-to-DC power converter which is operative at very high switching frequencies with zero-voltage resonant transition switching. A single magnetic element functions as both a storage inductor and a transformer. A charging capacitor is switched to induce a reversal current through the inductor for providing the zero-voltage switching function. Control to output characteristics are identical to those of conventional buck and buck-boost converters. The invention provides efficient, high-frequency operation and isolation of the output from the input power source with minimal component volume. The control system is adaptable to constant frequency pulse width modulation for voltage regulation.

The circuit provides dual inductor buck power stage operation while maintaining input-output isolation. Interleaved power processing provides continuous capacitance support for the output voltage produced by the power supply.
