  • Publication number: 20060016156
Abstract: A vacuum packaging system for transporting a plurality of medical containers including a tray that supports the medical containers and an air impervious flexible film defining an internal cavity. The air impervious flexible film completely surrounds the tray and the medical containers. The internal cavity is evacuated to a predetermined vacuum level below atmospheric pressure. A method for packaging the plurality of medical containers for transportation in the tray includes inserting the medical containers into the tray, inserting the tray filled with medical containers into the internal cavity, evacuating the internal cavity to a predetermined vacuum pressure and sealing the flexible film such that the predetermined vacuum pressure is generally maintained in the internal cavity.

  • Publication number: 20040236305
Abstract: The invention relates to a transfer device (1), in particular for a container (2) whose interior is under negative pressure and which is closed by means of an elastic stopper (5). The device has a receiving cap (9) and a piercing mandril (10) for piercing the stopper. Relative to its direction of piercing, the piercing mandril is provided with a front piercing portion (20) and with a rear sealing portion (21) which is of greater diameter. In the position in which a bead (4) of the container is inserted into the receiving cap, the sealing portion contacts the stopper. In this way, a tear in the stopper, which tear has been formed by eccentric application of the device onto the container, can be sealed off.

  • Publication number: 20040225274
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention include a fluid transfer device, for example, for medical fluids. The device includes a housing, two piercing elements mounted in the housing, and a slide arranged between the piercing elements. The slide may be displaced with respect to the piercing elements such that, in a first position, a flow connection is established between the two piercing elements, and, in a second position, a flow connection is established between one of the piercing elements and a lateral opening of the housing. In the area of the lateral opening, the housing may have a connector for insertion of a syringe cone of a syringe. When the syringe cone is inserted into the connector, the front end of the syringe cone may move the slide from the first position to the second position.

  • Publication number: 20040186440
Abstract: A lockable safety shield assembly for a prefillable syringe is provided. The design of the lockable safety shield assembly enhances pharmaceutical manufacturers' ease of assembling the various components as part of its filling or processing of the prefillable syringes in normal practice, while at the same time minimizes difficulties in mating parts made from different materials. A tube is placed around the outside surface of the syringe barrel and affixed thereto. A collar is provided on the tube adjacent the distal end of the syringe barrel. A safety shield is axially slidable over the tube between a retracted position, wherein the distal end of the piercing element associated with the prefillable syringe is exposed, and an extended position, wherein the safety shield is locked to the collar to protectively cover the distal end of the piercing element. The safety shield includes locking structure configured so that the shield can be easily fitted over the tube.

  • Publication number: 20040106905
Abstract: A medical injection device is provided which includes a shield system and a syringe which maybe coupled to the shield system. The shield system includes a syringe holder and a shield telescopically received in the holder and slidably coupled to the holder. A spring resiliently urges the shield from a retracted position to an extended position. Stop members are provided adjacent the distal end of the holder and the proximal end of the shield for maintaining the shield in the retracted position. The syringe is slidably coupled to the holder, and extends within the shield. Axial movement of the syringe with respect to the holder causes disengagement of the stop members, allowing the spring to move the shield to the extended position. Detents are provided on the holder for maintaining the shield in the extended position.
