  • Patent number: 6435867
Abstract: There is provided a cast tire for use with a furnace roller. The cast tire has at least three of annular spaced pockets located around the central opening of the tire on each radial side. When the tires are installed on a furnace roller with arbor means, pockets are inserted into the annular spaced pockets. The pockets are secured only to the arbor means of the roller. Rotation of the arbor means results in rotation of the cast tires by transmission of torque from the pockets to the to the tire without direct attachment of the tire to the arbor means.

  • Patent number: 6131537
Abstract: A water-cooled baffle used in a furnace to control the clearance gap between the bottom of the baffle and the hearth of the furnace. The baffle includes a first pipe that extends at least to the walls of the furnace and serves as an arbor to allow rotation of the baffle. The first pipe has cooling water entry and water exit ports at opposing ends, and a plate and core buster segments disposed inside of it to establish annular regions for water flow. A second pipe is connected to the first pipe in a manner to allow the flow of water from the annular region connected to the water entry port of the first pipe, through the second pipe, and then through the annular region connected to the water exit port of the first pipe.

  • Patent number: 5833455
Abstract: A dry furnace roll design operates at a high temperature environment of a metal heating furnace by arranging weld metal joining a roll sleeve to roll bells at opposite ends in cavities formed in the sidewalls of the furnace. A dense filling of ceramic fiber material is held in each roll bell underlying the weld connection with the roll sleeve by discs. Ceramic fiber material is put into the cavity of the sidewall and held in place by a keeper plate. The masses of weld metal joining the roll sleeve to the roll bells are comprised of TIG weld metal formed in an inert gas. Multi-pass welding is performed while supporting the roll assembly during the welding operation at an angled relation to the horizontal. The roll is rotated in the angled relation to allow the deposition of weld metal in multiple passes and in an accurately controllable manner preferably by the use of a microprocessor to control the positioning of weld electrode.

  • Patent number: 5341568
Abstract: A method of manufacturing an insulated furnace roller includes providing the roller with an insulating refractory castable between the spaced apart tires of the roller and between the outermost tires and the furnace walls, the castable being secured to an arbor of the roller by metal anchors having outer ends that terminate inwardly of the outer surface of the castable, and wherein between the tires and the castable spacer discs are provided and between openings formed by the discs and tires insulation is inserted, the arbor being also wrapped with insulation before the castable is formed on the arbor.

  • Patent number: 5230618
Abstract: The disclosure relates to an insulated furnace roller and a method of manufacture thereof, in which the roller is provided with an insulating refractory castable between the spaced apart tires of the roller and between the outermost tires and the furnace walls, the castable being secured to an arbor of the roller by metal anchors having outer ends that terminate inwardly of the outer surface of the castable, and wherein between the tires and the castable spacer discs are provided and between openings formed by the discs and tires insulation is inserted, the arbor being also wrapped with insulation before the castable is formed on the arbor.

  • Patent number: 3990950
Abstract: A leveler door for sealing the leveler opening in a coke oven door; the oven door of the type having leveler door mounting and latching apparatus associated therewith. The leveler door comprising a flexible closure member possessing spring-like properties at elevated temperatures and having a generally concave shape, terminating in a flexible sealing edge at its outer periphery. The sealing edge is formed at an angle of less than 90.degree. relative to the plane of the leveler opening. Means for securing the closure member to the mounting and latching apparatus of the coke oven door are disclosed, whereby the compressive closing force supplied by the mounting and latching apparatus causes the concave closure member to move toward the leveler opening causing the sealing edge to concurrently flex outwardly from the leveler opening while sealably engaging the coke oven door adjacent the leveler opening.
