  • Patent number: 4840315
Abstract: A method and apparatus for grinding brittle stock such as cement clinker to form finished cement, passing the grinding stock through a first roller press having pressure and nip capabilities to do product bed comminution which is unique in self particle destruction causing incipient cracks in the inside of the product particles which are delivered from the press in agglomerations or scabs, the agglomerated scabs are delivered to a second roller press of larger capacity, which also does product bed comminution, de-agglomerating the scabs after the second roller press, classifying the de-agglomerated product and recirculating the coarse fraction back to the second roller press and possibly also to the intake of the first roller press.

  • Patent number: 4323532
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for compressing and agglomerating coal dust without the use of bonding agents in which the coal dust is passed through a conventional roll press operating at a compressive force of at least 20 kilonewtons (kN) per centimeter (cm) of roll width. The high pressure conditions make it possible to secure suitable compression and agglomeration at temperatures below 200.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4238217
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for the formation of lumps or pellets of mixtures of raw materials for glass. Soda and water are added to a mixture of the raw materials in a mixing container. The resulting mixture is at least partially heated for vaporization of the water and the mixture is compressed in a roller press. Pellets or lumps result which are fed to a heat exchanger for pre-heating prior to introduction into a melting furnace. Exhaust gases from a furnace are fed to the heat exchanger and also to the mixing container and a supply container for the roller press.
