  • Patent number: 6234834
Abstract: A stacked electrical connector comprises triple stacked dielectric housings with a similar structure, a bottom, a middle and a top conductive terminal groups and two sets of transition contacts engaging with the middle and the top terminal groups, a one-piece grounding contact having three contacting arms inserting into the three stacked housings, a spacer and a conductive shield enclosing the stacked housings and the two sets of the transition contacts. The middle and the top terminal groups have a same structure, thereby simplifying the manufacture of the stacked electrical connector. An upper and a lower retaining blocks are prepared for fastening to the middle and the top housings. The spacer forms a pair of latching posts engaging with the lower retaining block for fixing the stacked housings against the spacer and defines a plurality of grooves to position the two sets of transition contacts.

  • Patent number: 6172310
Abstract: A switching device for an electrical connector comprises a cover and a base securely assembled with the cover. A plurality of contacts comprising first contacts, second contacts, and third contacts are secured in the base. A plurality of switching terminals each includes a positioning portion, a first tab, a second tab, and a third tab. Each switching terminal forms a pushing end opposite the positioning portion, the pushing end also connecting the first tab to the third tab. The tabs respectively form first, second, and third contacting portions thereon. In operation, the first and the second contacting portions are respectively engaged with the first and second contacts when the pushing end is not being pushed laterally. When the pushing end is pushed laterally, the first contacting portion disengages from the first contact, and the third contacting portion moves to engage with the third contact, thereby switching a signal transmission.

  • Patent number: 6125535
Abstract: A method for manufacturing an electrical connector having at least two rows of high density contacts, comprises steps of stamping and forming, depositing, insert molding, severing, and assembling. Each contact carrier strip has a number of contacts, a first carrier and a second carrier forming positioning structures thereon. Each contact includes a soldering section, a connecting section, a securing section and a contacting section jointed together end to end. The connecting sections of the contacts of different contact carrier strips are perpendicular to both the soldering sections and the securing sections. The contact carrier strips are deposited in a mold. A contact base is insert molded around the contacts for enclosing appropriate sections of the contacts thereby forming a contact module after properly depositing the contact carrier strips in the mold. The soldering sections of the contacts of different contact carrier strips are alternately aligned and remain in the same plane.
