    Abstract: An electrical connector includes an insulative housing, a number of contacts and a shielding cage. The shielding cage includes a first cage and a second cage for mating with the first cage. The first cage includes a base portion and a pair of restricting portions bent downwardly from opposite lateral sides of the base portion. Each restricting portion defines a number of recesses at its bottom edge. The second cage includes a shielding plate, a number of locking arms bent upwardly from the shielding plate and a number of recessed engaging portions on lateral sides of the locking arms. When the second cage is assembled to the first cage, the restricting portions are restricted by the engaging portions and the locking arms inside and outside for not only achieving strong integral strength, but also achieving robust shielding effects.

Each of the first and second female contacts includes a retaining portion including a first locking portion and a second locking portion. Each first locking portion includes a slit. Each second locking portion includes a positioning portion and an engaging arm. The retaining portions of the first female contact and the second female contact are of the same configuration after rotating 180 degrees. When the first female contact is combined in position with the second female contact, the positioning portion and the slit of the first female contact engage with the slit and the positioning portion of the second female contact, simultaneously.

The spacer includes a horizontal portion and a vertical portion perpendicular to the horizontal portion. The horizontal portion defines a slot through which the contacts extend. The vertical portion includes an inner wall, an outer wall and a channel extending through the inner wall and the outer wall. The outer wall defines a recess opening in communication with the channel. When the contacts are associated with the spacer, the contacts are partly exposed to the recess opening via the channel for robust heat dissipation.
