Patent number: 11851900Abstract: A temporary upright post includes rail supports for holding temporary lateral guardrails and a mounting system for mounting to a permanent upright stanchion of a permanent railing system for an elevated surface. The mounting system includes a longitudinal bore in the lower portion of the upright post that removably receives the stanchion with a loose fit, and the mechanical securement tightens the post to the stanchion to secure them together for use and loosens to release the post for installation and removal. Example embodiments also include a support bearing that is repositionable to contact and support the post in an elevated position on the stanchion, up and away from the elevated surface, or to disengage from mechanical interference with the stanchion so the post can be lowered to the use position.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 2020Date of Patent: December 26, 2023Inventors: James Croswell Brim, III, Robert Paul Hanes, Jr., Hunter Moore, Brian Keaton, David A. Publication number: 20200208194Abstract: Coagulation and fibrinolysis assays and related compositions, systems, methods, and kits are provided. In some embodiments, a coagulation and fibrinolysis assay may utilize one or more biological molecules. For instance, the assay may comprise combining a blood or blood-derived patient sample with the biological molecule(s) and measuring one or more properties of the sample associated with coagulation and/or fibrinolysis. The biological molecules may serve to shorten the assay duration and/or enhance the sensitivity of the assay relative to certain conventional assays. In certain embodiments, the biological molecules may allow pathological coagulation and/or fibrinolysis phenotypes to be elucidated. The coagulation and fibrinolysis assays described herein may be used for a wide variety of clinical and/or laboratory applications, including the diagnosis of certain coagulation and/or fibrinolysis disorders, such as trauma-induced coagulopathy and hyperfibrinolysis.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 11, 2018Publication date: July 2, 2020Applicants: Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of ColoradoInventors: Michael B. Patent number: 9097595Abstract: A system for determining the source of vibration of a nipped roll assembly includes: a first substantially cylindrical roll; a mating structure positioned relative to the first roll to form a nip therewith; a plurality of annular nip condition sensor units mounted on the first roll; each of the annular nip condition sensor units being positioned at different axial locations along the first roll and configured to provide nip condition signals from the nip, the signals indicating a nip condition at multiple circumferential locations; and a processor associated with the sensor units that receives signals from the sensor units. The processor is configured to convert the signals from the sensor units into nip condition readings for the multiple circumferential locations at each axial location. Such a system can detect irregularities in a roll or the mating structure that can cause undesired vibration.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 2009Date of Patent: August 4, 2015Assignee: Stowe Woodward, L.L.C.Inventor: Robert Hunter Moore
