Abstract: A list managing method and apparatus that manage a list of content in a portable terminal having a touch screen according to multi-touch signals are disclosed. The method includes: detecting multi-touch signals input to a list on a touch screen; determining whether the multi-touch signals are input for a period of time equal to or greater than an activation time period; designating, if the multi-touch signals are input within the activation time period, the entire list with a selection area for altering a structure of a list; identifying a gesture generated by the multi-touch signals; expanding or contracting the structure of the entire list according to the gesture; and displaying the altered structure of the entire list on the touch screen.

The method preferably includes connecting to a wireless network transmitting a signal greater than a predetermined value in strength when an Internet access request is detected; requesting the connected wireless network for traffic; determining whether the traffic is received from the connected wireless network; and releasing the connection to the wireless network by determining the wireless network as an idle wireless network when no traffic is received. The determination as to whether to maintain or release the connection to the currently connected WLAN based on whether actual traffic is received from the WLAN. When the mobile terminal is connected to an Access Point not coupled to the Internet, the mobile terminal immediately switches the connection to a cellular network.

Abstract: A fast hand-over method of a mobile device roaming in a wireless LAN environment includes: receiving GPS information; based on the received location information of the mobile device, searching one or more APs; by scanning the searched APs, detecting an AP to reassociate with; and reassociating with the detected AP. According to the method, when roaming in a wireless LAN environment, a mobile device calculates a moving path by using GPS information and then, by scanning only APs belonging to channels allocated to areas related to the moving direction, the mobile device can reduce a hand-over period, and as a result, a QoS guaranteed service can be provided continuously. Also, by using GPS information, the mobile device can selectively switch to an optimum network service in an area to which different network services are applied.

Abstract: A method of allocating frequency subbands in an ultrawideband (UWB) wireless communication system and an apparatus adopting the same are provided. The method of allocating frequency subbands to a device in a communication system, the method including: (a) determining whether usage of a first frequency band including upper frequency subbands is necessary; and (b) if it is determined that the usage of the first frequency band is necessary, not setting usage permission for the first frequency band to the device and not granting access to the first frequency band if a request for usage of the first frequency band is received from the device. When generation of a new piconet is necessary or generation of a new piconet is requested in a multi-piconet environment, since subbands of a high frequency group are allocated through negotiation, frequency resources are efficiently managed.

The invention includes release to the touchscreen of another device that is in wireless communication with the device having the picked up object.
