  • Publication number: 20070146283
Abstract: A liquid crystal display system is provided where a light irradiated onto each pixel provided at a liquid crystal display panel can be divided for each frame interval to selectively transmit and absorb the divided light. A liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal display panel and a timing controller that controls switching of a light transmission area and a light absorption area of the plurality of pixels for each frame interval. A liquid crystal shutter selectively absorbs and transmits a light irradiated onto each pixel for each frame interval. Electrode lines provided in a horizontal direction are symmetrically arranged at a front side of the liquid crystal display panel. The electrode lines makes a pair to be positioned at the front side of each pixel in the horizontal direction. A shutter driver alternately supplies a current to the pair of electrode lines positioned at the front side of each pixel in response to a control of the timing controller.

  • Publication number: 20060181664
Abstract: The present invention discloses an array substrate for an IPS-LCD device. The IPS-LCD device according to the present invention implements a multi-domain for a liquid crystal layer. The liquid crystal molecules are aligned in various directions with respect to each different domain. Therefore, the different domains compensate for one another such that a color shift is prevented in spite of wide viewing angles. To form the multi-domain, the present invention provides an array substrate having divided common electrode or pixel electrode or both. In another aspect, to form the multi-domain, the present invention provides an array substrate having multi-bar shaped common and pixel electrodes. Each of the common and pixel electrodes has a transverse portion and a perpendicular portion. The transverse portions of the common and pixel electrodes induce a first domain, whereas the perpendicular potions of the common and pixel electrodes induce a second domain.

  • Patent number: 7084845
Abstract: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for driving a liquid crystal display that is capable of improving the viewing angle by converting a gray scale having poor viewing angle characteristics into a gray scale combination having good viewing angle characteristics. A driving method of a liquid crystal display for wide viewing angle of the present invention, time-divides one frame into at least two sub-frames for driving the liquid crystal display such that an arbitrary main grayscale is expressed by the combination of the sub-grayscales expressed at each of at least two sub-frames. Accordingly, the grayscale with poor viewing angle characteristics is time-divided into at least two grayscales with good viewing angle characteristics and the liquid crystal display is driven, thereby improving the viewing angle.
