  • Publication number: 20060263876
Abstract: This present invention features methods and composition for the isolation and proliferation of neural crest stem cells (NCSCs) from embryonic tissues as well as from tissues from a post-natal mammal. According to this invention, NCSCs are capable of producing non-neuronal and neuronal cells under the appropriate conditions. The cells of the invention therefore provide an accessible source for autologous and heterologous transplantation into the central nervous system, the peripheral nervous system, as well as other damaged tissues.

  • Patent number: 6612443
Abstract: A centrifugal jig has a container mounted for rotation about its longitudinal axis (22), separated into an axial region (32) and a peripheral region by ragging material (41) supported by a screen (30). The peripheral region is composed of a series of hutch chambers (34) with reciprocating wall portions (45) located radially outside the screen (30), for repetitively dilating the ragging. Also disclosed is a hutch chamber construction applicable to both rotary and non-rotary jigs, having a reciprocating wall portion (45) which includes convergent wall surfaces leading to the hutch chamber concentrate outlet (44).

The container is separated into an axial region and a peripheral region by ragging material supported by a screen. The peripheral region is composed of a series of hutch chambers with reciprocating wall portions located radially outside the screen, for repetitively dilating the ragging. The disclosed hutch chamber construction has a reciprocating wall portion which includes convergent wall surfaces that narrow toward the hutch chamber concentrate outlet.

  • Patent number: 6247867
Abstract: A coupling for engaging and disengaging a drive means (12) from a driven member (10), the coupling comprising a stress absorbent coupling member (20), a shaft (22), operably connected to a drive (12), and an actuating member (28), the coupling member being slidably mounted on the shaft (22) such that on operation of the actuating member (28), the coupling member is caused to slide along the shaft (22) between a first position at which the drive is disengaged from the driven member and a second position at which the drive engages the drive member.

  • Patent number: 3987826
Abstract: A tree clamp, especially for a tree length harvester, having a compact arrangement of a movable jaw which folds partially inside of a fixed jaw and has a pivoted section to clamp the tree. The movable jaw and its pivoted section also grasp the butt end of the tree and lift it out of the teeth of the fixed jaw at the end of the processing step. The tree is then released and free to roll into a storage rack.An automatic sequence control is provided that includes a pivoted plate on the clamp which is depressed by the tree to initiate processing steps without requiring the operator's attention.

  • Patent number: 3986542
Abstract: A mobile tree harvester, especially on a wheeled frame, having tree severing, transferring and delimbing apparatus or processes combined. Specifically a harvester operating to cut, manipulate or transfer from a vertical to horizontal position and delimb full length trees at the site. Standing trees are severed at the ground by a cutter such as an hydraulically operated shear located at the front of the machine. A delimber, fixed in relation to the cutter and operating generally longitudinally of the machine, receives the severed tree, delimbs it out to usable length and then automatically tops off the rest. A tree transfer mechanism is operable between the cutter and delimber to grasp the severed tree above the cutter, lift it through a prescribed arc and deposit it on the delimber. An axial hold or clamp secures the tree against axial movement in the delimber while the cutter and transfer mechanism return for a second tree.
