  • Patent number: 9205684
Abstract: A printer capable of preventing clogging the printhead nozzles due to paper dust produced from sprocket holes in continuous paper, and preventing the printhead from ejecting ink droplets except on the continuous paper, has a printhead that ejects ink droplets toward continuous paper having sprocket holes formed along both sides of the paper width; a cover member that covers the edge part of the width of the continuous paper where sprocket holes are formed in the range of the printhead in the conveyance direction of the continuous paper, and can move in the paper width direction; and a detection mechanism that detects the position of the cover member in the paper width direction.

  • Patent number: 9056501
Abstract: A control method that conveys a recording medium fed from a first conveyance unit a specific number of paper feed steps after the leading end is detected by a first detection unit, and stops conveyance after conveying the leading end of the recording medium passed the second conveyance unit, second detection unit, and print unit to an initial printing position has a reference distance acquisition step that gets a reference number of conveyance steps equal to the distance between the second detection unit and the initial printing position in the specific number of conveyance steps; an actual step count measurement step that measures an actual number of steps the recording medium is conveyed during actual conveyance from detection of the leading end by the second detection unit until conveyance stops; and an evaluation step that determines if paper feed error occurred when conveying the recording medium.

  • Patent number: 8485462
Abstract: A paper transportation control method for an apparatus enables conveying paper with appropriate tension on the paper by appropriately controlling a paper delivery operation of a delivery roller. When paper is conveyed by a paper feed roller pair of a roll paper printer, and tension on the paper is detected to exceed an upper tension limit based on displacement of a damping mechanism (a first time), a paper delivery operation of a delivery roller pair starts at a second time after a start operation delay time corresponding to a feed rate passes after the first time. When the tension returns to or below the upper tension limit, the paper delivery operation stops at a third time after a stop operation delay time similarly corresponding to the feed rate passes.

  • Patent number: 8303198
Abstract: A label paper indexing control method for a label printer is provided that in one embodiment includes conveying label paper having labels affixed with a specific gap there between to a continuous liner through a path passed a printing position of a print head, detecting a reference position of the label paper at a detection position upstream from the print head, determining the position of a downstream label end of a label on the path as a first distance from the detection position based on when the reference position is detected, updating the first distance each time the label paper is conveyed, executing a power shutdown operation that writes the first distance to memory and turns the power off when a command instructing turning the power off is asserted, and reading the first distance from memory when the power turns on without the label paper having been replaced.

  • Patent number: 8157460
Abstract: A printer that uses roll paper as the printing medium and has a manual feed button and an automatic paper cutter detects if the manual feed button was operated. If the manual feed button was operated, the paper is advanced a prescribed length, and the paper is cut by the automatic paper cutter after advancing the paper stops.

Abstract: A paper transportation control method for an apparatus enables conveying paper with appropriate tension on the paper by appropriately controlling the paper delivery operation of a delivery roller. When paper is conveyed by the paper feed roller pair 34 of a roll paper printer 1, and the tension on the paper 8a is detected to exceed an upper tension limit based on the displacement of a damping mechanism 32 (time t2), the paper delivery operation of a delivery roller pair 33 starts at a time t3 after a start operation delay time DLS (first delay time) corresponding to the feed rate V(34) passes after time t2. When the tension returns to or below the upper tension limit, the paper delivery operation stops at a time t5 after a stop operation delay time DLE (second delay time) similarly corresponding to the feed rate V(34) passes. Tension fluctuation (change in the load on the paper feed roller) can be controlled without causing chattering or fluttering in paper delivery operation control.
