  • Publication number: 20060238102
Abstract: Provided are a phosphor for a plasma display panel (PDP) including: a zinc silicate-based phosphor represented by the formula of Zn2SiO4:Mn; and a continuous crystalline metal oxide layer composed of yttrium oxide (Y2O3) formed on the zinc silicate-based phosphor, and a PDP having a phosphor layer composed of the phosphor. The phosphor for a PDP has a continuous crystalline layer composed of a positively charged metal oxide such as yttrium oxide, and thus has better surface properties. The metal oxide layer acts as a protecting layer to prevent deterioration of the phosphor due to ion bombardment. When the phosphor is used to manufacture a green phosphor layer for a PDP, a green discharge voltage can be controlled to levels of red and blue colors due to a better surface charge property and a poor specific gradation discharge problem can be resolved.

  • Publication number: 20060152135
Abstract: A phosphor for a plasma display panel (PDP) has a decay time of about 1 ms or less when a Xe concentration is about 10 wt % to about 30 wt % based on the total weight of a discharge gas. A phosphor composition includes the same and a PDP includes a phosphor layer comprising the phosphor or the phosphor composition. When the phosphor or the phosphor composition are used, a low gray scale and low discharge problem due to a green phosphor of a PDP may be solved, a permanent afterimage due to a green phosphor is reduced, and a color reproduction range is significantly broadened compared to a conventional green phosphor of a PDP. In addition, the circuit of the PDP is simplified since colors are not individually subjected to gamma correction but are corrected using a single white gamma. Furthermore, the contrast in a light room is also improved due to the use of phosphor powders with color.

  • Publication number: 20050264162
Abstract: A blue phosphor can be used for a plasma display panel. The blue phosphor is formed with a core phosphor and a europium coating layer over the core phosphor. The core phosphor is expressed by the following formula 1: (Ba1-xEux)O.MgyO(Al2O3)z??(1) In the formula, 0.005?x?0.05, 1?y?2, and 5?z?7. The europium coating layer includes europium divalent ions, Eu2+. In a method of making the blue phosphor, the core phosphor is mixed with a europium containing compound such as Eu2O3, and the mixture is thermally treated to form the europium coating layer.

  • Publication number: 20050109987
Abstract: The present invention provides a green light-emitting phosphor for a light-emitting device excited by vacuum ultraviolet rays, a light-emitting device, and a method of preparing the same. The green light-emitting phosphor is represented by the formula AxB4-2xO6-2x:Mny, wherein A is Mg, Zn, Ca, or Li, B is Al or Ga, 0.6?x?1.4, and 0.01?y?0.1. The phosphor has excellent brightness, color purity, and discharging characteristics, and a short decay time. In one embodiment, the phosphor has a stable spinel structure, and is stable with regard to external influence such as heat, ion bombardment, and vacuum ultraviolet rays. Longer-lived light-emitting devices are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6540941
Abstract: The present invention provides a green phosphor for fluorescent display having a composition represented by a chemical formula: xZnO+(2-x-y/2)Ga2O3+yAl2O3:zMn2+ where 0.8≦x<1.0; 0<y≦0.8, and 0<z≦0.1, wherein a part of gallium in nonstoichiometric zinc gallate base is substituted for aluminum and Mn2+ is added to the zinc gallate base. Also, the present invention provides a method of manufacturing said green phosphor for fluorescent display, the method comprising steps of: preparing a mixture by mixing uniformly zinc oxide, gallium oxide, aluminum oxide, alcohol and either an aqueous solution of manganese salt or an aqueous suspension of manganese oxide; preparing a compound by heating said mixture; and reducing said compound by re-heating said compound in a reducing atmosphere.
