  • Patent number: 9661460
Abstract: A dual SIM mobile terminal, such as a Dual SIM Dual Active (DSDA) mobile terminal, connects to a network and performs a user plane or control plane positioning session through the network. When the positioning session is originated by the mobile terminal, either SIM card may be used to connect to its associated network. When the positioning session is originated by another entity in the network, either SIM card may be used for the positioning session. When the mobile terminal connects to a network for an emergency call using either SIM card and an emergency positioning session is performed through the network, the emergency positioning session is permitted only during the emergency call and an emergency callback period and permitted only on a subscription on which the emergency call originated, and no non-emergency positioning sessions with either SIM card is permitted during the emergency positioning session or emergency call.

  • Patent number: 9560626
Abstract: Systems and techniques to determine an approximate location for a mobile device using historic location information. In an aspect, a SUPL Location Platform (SLP), which is a location server in SUPL, may receive data from SUPL Enabled Terminal (SET). The data may include the Multiple Location IDs Parameter. The real time Location ID Parameter may not have a current status. The SLP may determine an approximate position for the SET based on the Multiple Location IDs Parameter data received from the SET. The SLP may then send the approximate position to the SET or a SUPL Agent, or may use the approximate position information in another way.

  • Patent number: 9560627
Abstract: A method for assisting a mobile device to perform positioning measurements on positioning signals periodically transmitted by at least some of a plurality of cells in a wireless communication network includes receiving cell information. The cell information is measured or otherwise obtained by the mobile device and includes measurements/data pertaining to one or more of the plurality of cells in the wireless communication network. The method includes generating assistance data to include an assigned frequency channel number for use by the mobile device for performing the positioning measurements based on the received cell information. The assistance data is then sent to the mobile device.

  • Patent number: 9467966
Abstract: Techniques are provided that provide for or otherwise support positioning and related services for mobile devices via wireless signals. In an example, a mobile device in a communication network may acquire a first downlink signal from a first node in the communication network and a second downlink signal from a second node in the communication network. The first node may also be configured to transmit a data service signal and/or a voice service signal via the first downlink signal. However, the second node, by design, is not configured to transmit either a voice service signal or a data service signal via the second downlink signal. An estimated location of the mobile device may subsequently be determined, for example, based, at least in part, on the first and second terrestrial positioning signals.

  • Patent number: 9386406
Abstract: Techniques for querying for information on location sessions in a user plane location architecture are described. In an aspect, a location server may send a query message to a terminal to query for information on active location sessions, e.g., when at least one location session for periodic triggered service or area event triggered service is deemed to be active. The terminal may return a response message containing a list of session identifiers (IDs) for the active location sessions, parameters for the active location sessions, capabilities of the terminal, etc. The location server may compare the information received from the terminal and information stored at the location server. The location server may terminate each location session deemed to be active at only the terminal or only the location server. The location server may restart or terminate each location session having inconsistent parameters at the terminal and the location server.

  • Publication number: 20160077210
Abstract: Disclosed are methods, devices and systems for determining a signal search space for acquisition of a satellite positioning system (SPS) signal. For example, a signal transmitted by a terrestrial-based transmitting device may be acquired for use, at least in part, to adjust a receiver for acquisition of SPS signals. The terrestrial-based transmitting device may be classified based, at least in part, on a factor obtained from the acquired signal. An SPS signal search space for the receiver may then be based, at least in part, on a frequency uncertainty corresponding to the classification of said transmitting device.

  • Publication number: 20150230057
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and systems for supporting positioning operations in a cellular communication network including locating a mobile device in response to an emergency event. In one particular implementation, a first position fix may be provided quickly by a mobile device and may be followed by a second, more accurate, position fix at a later time. In particular implementations, the first and second position fixes may be provided using the 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) Positioning Protocol (LPP) as part of a single LPP transaction and may further be provided using a user plane or control plane location solution.

  • Patent number: 9100787
Abstract: Techniques for initiating and, if desired, modifying location services for Secure User Plane Location (SUPL) and other location architectures are described. To initiate SUPL service, a SUPL Location Platform (SLP) transmits a SUPL initial session message applicable to any service request to a SUPL enabled terminal (SET) and receives in response the service capabilities of the SET. The SLP selects and requests service from the SET consistent with the service capabilities of the SET. The SET may initiate SUPL service by requesting the service capabilities of the SLP. The SET selects and requests service from the SLP that is consistent with the service capabilities received from the SLP. The SET and SLP communicate to determine a position estimate for the SET. The service may be modified before or while communicating between the SET and the SLP to determine a position estimate for the SET.
