  • Patent number: 6426083
Abstract: The invention relates to aqueous boron-containing compositions and their preparation. In particular the invention provides self-structured aqueous sodium pentaborate gels. The gels according to the invention may be prepared by reacting boric acid or boric oxide and sodium tetraborate or metaborate in suspension in water and under mixing such that a self-structured sodium pentaborate gel is formed. The gels according to the invention are physically stable and are easily handled.
    Type: Grant

    Assignee: U.S. Borax Inc.
    Inventor: Igan Hayati
  • Patent number: 6273928
Abstract: A pourble aqueous borate-containing suspension which suspension in water contains 8 to 13% by weight boron as sodium pentaborate, 0.1 to 3% by weight of a swellable clay, and 0.05 to 0.2% by weight of a polysaccharide. The aqueous compositions according to the invention are physically stable, yet pourable and therefore readily handled. They may be used directly or, if appropriate, diluted for use. They may be used as a source of boron for crops or for other applications where there is a need for aqueous soluble borate suspensions.

  • Patent number: 5306478
Abstract: A process for preparing granular water soluble alkali metal borate compositions by agitating a finely divided feedstock comprising a water soluble alkali metal borate and optionally boric acid, the molar ratio of alkali metal oxide to boric oxide in the feedstock being from about 0.1 to 0.5:1, optionally heating the agitated feedstock particles, contacting the agitated feedstock particles with an aqueous granulating agent to agglomerate feedstock particles, and recovering a granular borate composition having an average particle size of at least 250 micro meters. The resultant granulated product has a higher bulk density and better water dissolution rate than the feedstock particles.

  • Patent number: 5052617
Abstract: A method of atomizing a polar liquid utilizes apparatus comprising a tube having an inlet for liquid and at least one aperture providing an outlet from the tube for the liquid and a field intensifying electrode disposed adjacent the aperture. The method comprises applying a potential difference between the polar liquid and the field intensifying electrode and feeding the liquid along the tube from the inlet to the aperture. In carrying out the method, the tube is supported at a position remote from the aperture and the potential difference, flow rate and tube stiffness are so selected relatively to each other that the tube can be electrostatically maintained in vibration or gyration to cause atomized liquid particles to be thrown from the tube at the aperture.
