  • Publication number: 20050204052
Abstract: Quality feedback in a streaming service wherein at least one media stream (101) is streamed to a client (601) and a quality feedback value is determined (304) according to at least one quality metric is improved by determining (305) a timestamp relating to said quality feedback value according to at least one timestamp metric, wherein for each of said at least one quality metrics, a corresponding timestamp metric is defined, and wherein each of said at least one timestamp metrics is based on a relative media playback time of said at least one media stream (101), and reporting (306) said quality feedback value and said related timestamp to a server (600). Said relative media playback time is preferably derived from RTP (102) timestamps, from a NPT provided by a RTSP (109), from timestamps of a RTCP or from timestamps of a SIP.

  • Publication number: 20050152341
Abstract: A terminal, system and a method for transmitting voice from the terminal to at least one other terminal over a network. Voice is transmitted in first packets, and control information is transmitted in second packets. A bearer service is reserved from the network for transmission of the first and the second packets. In the terminal, voice activity is detected to determine whether there is voice or silence, wherein detected silence is used for transmitting at least one of the second packets.

  • Patent number: 6888821
Abstract: An network interface architecture is provided with solutions for dynamic media authorization and better management of QoS classes of a session (connection between users or mobile terminals) comprising a plurality of media streams within mobile networks such that, when media stream(s) are modified (new ones started and existing ones deleted) during the session, the traffic class of a session is defined by the highest traffic class requirement by the media flows belonging to the same session in order to eliminate the difference of transmission delays of media streams belonging to the same session and, therefore, improving the quality of the connection perceived by the end user.

  • Publication number: 20050025180
Abstract: A method in a communication system, a communication system and a communication device wherein in the method media streams are transmitted from a sending communication device to a receiving communication device at least partly via a wireless communication network. At least one media stream is selected to be transmitted to the receiving communication device. QoS requirements for transmitting the selected at least one media stream are defined, transmission resources are reserved from the wireless communication network for the transmission of at least one media stream, and a setup procedure is performed between the receiving communication device and the sending communication device for activating the one packet data transmission connection.

  • Publication number: 20030063569
Abstract: The present invention describes a method for selecting a preferable codec mode for a connection between a first communication device (UE1) and a second communication device (UE2), where the devices communicate via a network. An element in the network observes a quality of said connection. The quality is based on a data error level of network resource. Based on the observation the network element judges a preferable operational mode of the codec, from a group of operational modes of the codec. The preferable codec mode is based on the quality level of the connection. In the preferred embodiment, if a Radio Network Controller (RNC) observes congestion by observing Real-Time Protocol (RTP) header information, the RNC judges a lower codec mode for the connection. The lower mode for the connection is judged if there is at least one gap in a sequence of detected packets.
