    Abstract: A first aspect of the present invention provides a facsimile machine comprising: a memory storing shortening telephone numbers; a calling device accessing to a line to carry out dialing operation; a mode detector detecting a shortening dial command mode inputted from outside; a dialing number detector detecting the inputted shortening dial number; and a controller effecting the dialing number detector to detect the shortening dial number to be inputted in response to an output of the mode detector, and reading out a telephone number corresponding to the detected shortening dial number from the memory so as to enable the calling device to carry out its dialing operation.
