  • Patent number: 8373668
Abstract: Disclosed are embodiments of an electrophoretic display apparatus and an operating method thereof. According to one or more embodiments, an update voltage compensating for the degradation of an image is applied to a related pixel after a predetermined time interval elapses, when a plurality of images are consecutively displayed on one screen. Thus, the update voltage may be prevented from being applied to the pixel before the image degradation occurs, thereby preventing the pixel from being over-charged.

  • Patent number: 8300072
Abstract: An electrophoretic display (“EPD”) includes a display panel displaying an image and a gray-scale generator generating a gray-scale and providing a gray-scale voltage to the display panel. The gray-scale generator generates a gray-scale value of a white color using gray-scale values of red, green and blue colors and a brightness ratio between the red, green and blue colors. When a pure color is displayed, the EPD prevents the gray-scale of the white color from being fixed to 0. Thus, the EPD may enhance a chroma of the pure color and color brightness, thereby improving a display quality thereof.

  • Patent number: 8035661
Abstract: The driving apparatus of a display device calculates a slope using a minimum gray, a maximum gray, a gray average of frame data in a current frame, and a gray average of frame data in a previous frame, and corrects and outputs the input frame data according to the slope, using frame data of one frame. As a result, a gray range of the input image signal can be extended, thereby improving visibility. Further, in a case of a motion picture, even when a difference of a gray range of images of adjacent frames is large, an original image is not distorted due to extension of a gray range. Also, even when noise is included in the input image signal, a gray range can be extended after removing the noise.

  • Patent number: 7719756
Abstract: A display apparatus according to one or more embodiments includes an array substrate and an opposite substrate facing the array substrate. Pixels areas are defined in the array substrate, and each pixel area includes a pixel electrode having concave-convex patterns at the edges thereof when viewed in a plan view. The concave-convex patterns vary directions of fringe fields generated from the edges of the pixel electrode, so that an area in which a fringe field is formed relative to one pixel area may be prevented from overlapping with a peripheral pixel area.

  • Publication number: 20080136761
Abstract: In a display apparatus, a data driver converts a first group of image data into a first data voltage based on a first gamma reference voltage during a first period and converts a second group of the image data into a second data voltage based on a second gamma reference voltage during the first period. The data driver converts the first group into the second image voltage during a second period and converts the second group into the first data voltage during the second period. First and second pixel groups receive the first and second data voltages to display first and second gray-scale images, respectively, during the first period, and receive the second and first data voltages to display the second and first gray-scale images, respectively, during the second period. Thus, display quality and viewing angle characteristic of the display apparatus are improved and flicker is prevented.
