Publication number: 20200305388Abstract: A system for monitoring individual food intake of a livestock animal includes a calibration system configured to measure weight or volume of food intake of an animal over a pre-defined period of time and to calibrate a mathematical model for the animal based on the measure, a tracking system configured track animal eating behavior at times other than the pre-defined period of time and a computing system. The pre-defined period of time is less than three weeks. The mathematical model relates eating behavior of the animal and defined physiological parameters of the animal with food intake. The computing system determines food intake of the animal over a lactation period based on the mathematical model for the animal as calibrated and the eating behavior at the times other than the pre-defined period of time.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 22, 2018Publication date: October 1, 2020Applicant: The State of Israel, Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development, Agricultural Research OrganizationInventors: Ilan HALACHMI, Victor BLOCH, Harel LEVIT, Ehud RAM

Patent number: 10595513Abstract: A method for monitoring food intake of livestock animals includes defining a relationship between time an animal spends at a feeding trough and the animals food intake during that time, monitoring the time an animal spends at the feeding trough and determining a quantity of food intake for the animal based on the time spent at the feeding trough and the defined relationship. Optionally, time an animal spends in a feeding position at the feeding trough is monitored and used to determine quantity of food intake.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 2014Date of Patent: March 24, 2020Assignee: The State of Israel, Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development, Agricultural Research Organization (ARO) (Volcani Center)Inventors: Ilan Halachmi, Ephraim Maltz

Patent number: 7236237Abstract: An NIR spectroscopy fluid analyzing system using a series of LED's, each having its own preselected center wavelength, as illumination sources. These wavelengths have overlapping spectral widths, such that the measurement covers a broad spectrum. The LED's illuminate the fluid sample sequentially, and subsequently the transmission absorbance through the sample and the reflectance or scattering from the sample is measured for the wavelength range of each LED. The measurements are performed using photodetectors. The concentrations of component parts of the fluid are expressed in the form of a polynomial, which is a function of the measured transmitted and/or reflected intensities, and of empirical coefficients, which are extracted by prior statistical analysis on measured intensities obtained from a large number of test samples having known concentrations of the component. A novel sample chamber, capable of performing optical absorption measurements on a flowing sample of fluid, is described.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2004Date of Patent: June 26, 2007Assignees: S.A.E. Publication number: 20050115507Abstract: A system for identifying a ruminant, which is being milked. The system includes a transmitter attached to a hind leg of the ruminant and the transmitter transmits a predefined signal, which identifies the ruminant to which the transmitter is attached. The system includes at least one teat cup on which is attached an antenna to receive the signal with which to identify the animal. The teat cup is positionable on the ruminant's teat. A method for using the system is taught as is a teat cup having an antenna fixed thereon.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 14, 2003Publication date: June 2, 2005Applicant: S. A. E.
