    Abstract: Polymer foams having a good balance of high sound absorption, low thermal conductivity and generally low water absorption are disclosed which are obtainable by perforating (i.e., hole punching) a polymer foam having a moderately large cell size (1.5 mm to 4 mm) and an open content not greater than 40 percent to increase the open cell content of the foam by at least about 10 percent relative to the non-perforated foam, the polymer foam matrix preferably made of a thermoplastic foam, such as a low-density polyethylene (LDPE) resin, a high melt strength (HMS) polypropylene resin (PP), or a blend of a HMS PP resin and a LDPE resin, optionally containing a cell size enlarging agent such a glycerol monostearate, an antioxidant, carbon black and/or flame retardant additives, using a volatile organic compound, e.g. isobutane, as blowing agent.

    Abstract: Macrocellular polyolefin foams that can withstand temperatures above 110° C. are described for use in sound absorption and insulation applications, especially in elevated temperature and/or moist environments. These foams have a large cell size (≧1.5 mm), are open or closed-cell foams, and preferably have at least one perforation per square centimeter and/or a density less than 25 kg/m3. They are obtainable by extruding a high melt strength (HMS) polypropylene resin (PP), or preferably a blend of a HMS PP resin and a free radical polymerized ethylene polymer present in the blend in a weight ratio of at least 35:65, optionally another polymer such as a substantially random interpolymer, a cell size enlarging agent such a glycerol monostearate, an antioxidant, carbon black and/or flame retardant additives, using a volatile organic compound, e.g. isobutane, as blowing agent.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a quick-heating catalytic converter which allows the reduction of the unwanted emissions or pollutants created by the operation of an internal combustion engine. It comprises a catalytic converter system and an electronic heating catalytic system. In the catalytic converter system, the exhaust created by the operation of an internal combustion engine is oxidized or reduced to harmless emissions in the presence of a catalyst. The electronic heating catalytic converter system is located at a front position of the catalytic converter system and preheats the exhaust, comprising a power inverter circuit for inverting a direct current into an alternating current, a temperature-controlling circuit for controlling the temperature of the catalytic converter system, and a quick microwave heating circuit for quickly increasing the temperature of the catalytic converter within a few seconds to such an extent that the catalyst can readily function to purify the exhaust.

    Abstract: A hard bag cleaner door is disclosed having air directing rib vanes integral with its inner surface. These vanes take the form of, alternately, angled J-shaped ribs and short straight interleaved ribs. All the ribs are stepped so that the flow passage for air moving along the interior side of the bag door diverges as more bag air is introduced to it so that it directs efficiently air flow to a lower disposed motor-fan section of an adjoining hard bag portion. In a second embodiment, an exhaust opening is formed in the hard bag cleaner door below the air directing rib vanes and is covered by a final filter and final filter door. The air moving along the interior side of the bag door is directed out the exhaust opening, through the final filter which filters small dust particles which may be present in the exhaust air and out vent openings formed in the final filter door.
