  • Patent number: 11924920
Abstract: The described technology is generally directed towards obtaining communication-related operating information of a user equipment, such as via a terminal adapter to a terminal equipment. Communication-related operating information can include component carrier information, frequency band information, MIMO layer information, modulation information, and active user plane (uplink and downlink) information. In one aspect, a terminal equipment can send a communication command (e.g., an AT command) to a terminal adapter requesting return of frequency-related operating information and/or active user plane information, and receive the requested information from the terminal adapter. The terminal equipment provides access to the received information to a program running on the terminal equipment.

  • Publication number: 20230171339
Abstract: An indicator (e.g., “5G+” or “5G”) displayed on a mobile device is based on whether the mobile device is connected in or (if idle) has the potential of connecting in a high channel bandwidth frequency band (e.g., n77 or mmWave). An accurate indication is displayed when the mobile device is connected, or when idle and the aggregated bandwidth is not directly known, such as when anchored to a lower bandwidth cell. When in idle mode, the mobile device can maintain cell identifiers (“fingerprints”) and determine a location estimated to be within a high bandwidth cell, to thereby determine potential high bandwidth operation (e.g., and display 5G+) when connected. When in the idle mode, the mobile device can evaluate neighbor cells including if within a high channel bandwidth cell's coverage to decide whether to select “5G+” or “5G” for display to indicate the potential high bandwidth operation (or not) when connected.

  • Publication number: 20230080705
Abstract: A 5G stand alone system information broadcast message (SIB) can be drilled down into to determine a frequency range (sub 6 Ghz, millimeter wave, or both) that is accessible to a stand-alone user equipment based on a cell associated with the user equipment. The frequency range can be used to determine whether the user equipment shall display a “5G” icon or a “5G+” icon. The display can also be dependent on whether the user equipment is in idle/inactive modes or connected mode. Optionally, the user equipment can be a sub 6 Ghz dual band (frequency range 1 and frequency range 2) device, which can also be used to determine the displayed icon of the user equipment.

  • Patent number: 11601887
Abstract: Control parameters can be used to enable or disable new radios (NR) of mobile devices and preserve battery life. For example, the control parameters can comprise a scan timer and a sleep timer. A mobile device can decode a network message, turn on an NR, and enable the scan timer. If an NR cell is available, the mobile device can enter LTE-NR dual connectivity mode in response to the network message. Conversely, when the scan timer expires, the mobile device can turn off the NR radio, and enable the sleep timer to preserve the mobile device battery. When the sleep timer expires, the mobile device can turn on the NR radio and enable the scan timer.

  • Patent number: 11576039
Abstract: A customer premises node device can receive an authentication message from a fixed cellular communication device that operates according to a third-generation mobile network access standard (e.g., a 3G alarm panel). The customer premises node device can facilitate transmitting the authentication message, to a network node that operates according to a fourth-generation mobile network access standard. The authentication message can then be routed via mobile network components, including a network gateway device, to a home location registry device, which can authenticate the 3G fixed cellular communication device for communications on a 4G mobile network.

  • Publication number: 20220377516
Abstract: Facilitating storage of tracking area identities onto a universal integrated circuit card for advanced networks (e.g., 4G, 5G, and beyond) is provided herein. Operations of a system can comprise storing a first part of a tracking area identifier in a first data structure and a second part of the tracking area identifier in a second data structure. The operations can also comprise designating the second part as first data indicators and second data indicators. Further, the operations can comprise enabling a function for usage by a mobile device based on a setting that corresponds to a first data indicator of the first data indicators and a second data indicator of the second data indicators. The first data indicator and the second data indicator can be selected based on a tracking area identity associated with network devices of a network servicing the mobile device.

  • Publication number: 20220287144
Abstract: Various embodiments disclosed herein provide for sending queries and commands related to an extended idle mode discontinuous reception operation (eIDRX). There are vendor and manufacturer specific mechanisms for determining the eIDRX parameters of different, but there is currently not a network wide, standardized protocol for sending AT commands relating to eIDRX for device. In an embodiment, standardized eIDRX protocol can enable a mobile network to query a device to determine the current eIDRX mode and parameters, to query the device about the list/range of supported parameters, and to program the device to start using a new eIDRX parameter.

  • Publication number: 20220141916
Abstract: Power retention for 5G non-standalone devices can be accomplished via a process that comprises specific message data being sent to a mobile device. For example, although a mobile device can enable its new radio in response to communicating with a network cell that does not comprise a new radio functionality, a message can be sent to the mobile device to prevent the mobile device from enabling its new radio. Therefore, the mobile device can retain battery power simultaneously.

  • Publication number: 20210337457
Abstract: Communication systems can enhance customer experience by quickly and efficiently associating and disassociating radio access technologies (RATs) from available networks in a deployment. In one aspect, a user equipment (UE) can optimize usage of a PLMN selector file (e.g., HPLMNwACT) stored within the subscriber identity module (SIM) that comprises a combination of mobile country code/mobile network code (MCC/MNC) data and RAT data (e.g., customized based on mobile network operator (MNO) requirements and/or deployments). Moreover, during PLMN selection, the UE can only search for a RAT that is associated with a MCC/MNC combination, resulting in faster PLMN selection and reduced UE resource consumption. Further, the PLMN selector file can be modified based on MNO preferences via an over-the-air update.
