  • Patent number: 7166341
Abstract: Water-soluble or water-dispersible hotmelt adhesives are prepared using graft copolymers produced by graft copolymerizing olefinically unsaturated monomers onto polyalkylene oxides. The adhesives additionally contain at least one resin which improves tackiness and the compatibility of the adhesive components. Other components such as polymers, plasticizers, and additives may also be present. The adhesives are especially suited for use in the labelling of recyclable or reuseable hollow containers. The adhesive may be completely separated from the hollow containers and dissolved in an alkaline washing liquor even at low temperatures.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 21, 2004
Date of Patent: January 23, 2007
Assignee: Henkel Kommanditgesellschaft auf Aktien (Henkel KGAA)
Inventors: Marcus Heemann, Thomas Moeller, Ingo Gensch, Wolfgang Klingberg

  • Patent number: 6630050
Abstract: The invention relates to a contact adhesive based on a polyurethane of at least one diisocyanate and at least one low molecular weight polyethylene glycol, the polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight of up to 2,000 and the polyurethane having a degrees of crystallization of less than 20%. The contact adhesive can be applied from the melt or from an aqueous solution or dispersion. Surprisingly, it is suitable not only for polar plastic surface, but above all for PE and PP surfaces and of course for paper. Accordingly, the contact adhesive is preferably useful for applying paper labels to PE bottles.

  • Publication number: 20030105259
Abstract: An improved hot-melt-type adhesive is improved by including in the hot-melt-type adhesive the reaction product of pine rosin with formaldehyde. The addition of the pine rosin/formaldehyde reaction product improves the separation of the adhesive from the substrate in an alkaline washing bath. The adhesive precipitates as a coarsely dispersed non tacky form and can be easily removed from the washing bath.

  • Publication number: 20030000643
Abstract: Aqueous adhesive preparations, more particularly for labeling bottles, were to be formulated in such a way that high adhesion and the absence of odors during delabeling would be guaranteed. This was achieved by using aqueous preparations containing 1 to 70% by weight of a copolymer of monomers containing acid groups and hydrophobic monomers and, if desired, one or more auxiliaries for improving wet adhesive strength and/or for controlling open time and, if desired, preservatives, defoamers, dyes and/or other typical auxiliaries as labeling adhesives for bonding water-permeable hydrophilic substrates to hard surfaces.
