  • Patent number: 7617549
Abstract: An ambulance cot comprising generally a variable height support frame which is positionable and maneuverable above a surface by adjustable legs having support wheels and a method of use are disclosed. The support frame has a first portion pivotally coupled to a second portion having loading wheels. With the cot in a lowest position, the loading wheel are configured to rotate about a single axis when engaging the surface and to be positioned above the surface when the second portion is placed in a raised position relative to the first portion. The cot further includes a swivel castor mounted to the first portion between the loading wheels and the support wheels. When the cot is in the lowest position, the swivel castor engages the surface and will rotate about two axes when the second portion is in the raised position and about the same axis as the loading wheels when the second portion is not in the raised position.

  • Patent number: 6568009
Abstract: A large body stretcher dimensioned to accommodate large-bodied persons and foldable to conserve space. The stretcher provides a patient support surface comprising a first board and a second board that are secured together and foldable along a longitudinal axis. The stretcher may conveniently be secured, via a securing arrangement, to a host cot. The stretcher further provides rotatable backrest portions that permit the backrest of the host cot to be raised in order to assist patients who can benefit from being transported in an upright or seated position. The stretcher further provides a plurality of retaining channels so that the restraining straps of the host cot are available for use with a patient placed upon the large body stretcher. Handholds are provided to allow convenient use of the stretcher as a standalone apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5496092
Abstract: A multiple position child restraint device for use with vehicles, stretchers, cots, beds, and other transport apparatuses, and which can be folded into planar condition for storage and shipment. The restraint device includes substantially planar back support, seat support, and leg support members hingedly attached in serial relationship with one another generally along a longitudinal axis. The hinged connection between the back support and seat members is preferably provided by a pair of oppositely disposed hinges having a plurality of locking slots which align with one another at predetermined angular relationships, and wherein a locking bar fits within the aligned slots to selectively lock the back support and seat members in one of a plurality of predetermined angular orientations.

  • Patent number: 5435027
Abstract: A roll-in cot is provided and includes a rectangular undercarriage including a pair of side frame members and a pair of transverse frame members, downwardly extending supports affixed at respective corners of the rectangular undercarriage, and undercarriage wheels attached to the downwardly extending supports to provide high ground clearance for the undercarriage. The cot also includes a cot frame having a pair of opposing side frame members and a pair of supports extending downwardly from each of the opposing side frame members. The opposite ends of the supports are secured to a transverse member having a pair of load wheels thereon. Coacting pairs of complementary cross-forming frame members extend between and interconnect the cot frame and the undercarriage.

  • Patent number: 5092722
Abstract: A fastening system for emergency vehicle cots and the like includes a longitudinal guide track to be mounted upon the planar surface. At least one hold-down support depends downwardly from the support frame of the cot to be secured, extending toward the planar surface in use. The guide track receives the hold-down support to permit longitudinal movement of the support along the track while preventing substantial vertical movement. A lock is provided for automatically securing the support frame at a position along the track and to prevent further longitudinal movement therealong, and a release device for selectively disengaging the lock is also included. In a preferred embodiment, the fastening system further includes a pair of spaced apart supports, and the lock includes a plurality of locking gates spaced along the length of the guide track to receive and selectively lockingly interact with the supports.
