  • Patent number: 4488136
Abstract: A combination transformer with common yoke core characterized by the combination of a main transformer and series transformers, which transformers have separate and complete core and coil assemblies with a common core leg or yoke to reduce the core size, weight and loss.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 23, 1983
Date of Patent: December 11, 1984
    Assignee: Westinghouse Electric Corp.
Inventors: Irvin L. Hansen, Randall W. Haack
  • Patent number: 4460885
Abstract: A power transformer characterized by inner and outer low voltage winding sections and a high voltage winding section disposed therebetween. The low voltage windings are comprised of a plurality of pancake coils, and the high voltage winding are comprised of a plurality of conductor strands spirally wound for a plurality of coil layers. The low and high voltage winding sections are laterally spaced with the low voltage windings disposed in side-by-side positions and adjacent to the high voltage windings. The high voltage windings having a smaller turn height than the low voltage windings and having conductor strands of smaller gauge than the pancake coils of the low voltage windings.

Date of Patent: July 17, 1984
    Assignee: Westinghouse Electric Corp.
Inventors: Irvin L. Hansen, Leach S. McCormick, Harold R. Moore
  • Patent number: 4375627
Abstract: An electric transformer characterized by a transformer tank having an opening with a conducting closure panel in the opening and electrically insulated from the tank, a plurality of first and second conductors of opposite polarities leading from the transformer coil-core assembly with the conductors of opposite polarity comprising forward and return paths. A conducting tubular structure mounted on and extending inwardly from the inside surface of the panel and the return path conductors being connected to the corresponding tubular structures while the forward path conductors extend through the tubular structure and the panel to an external source.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: March 1, 1983
    Assignee: Westinghouse Electric Corp.
Inventors: Irvin L. Hansen, Randall W. Haack
  • Patent number: 4156862
Abstract: The electrical inductive apparatus including non-magnetic flux shields constructed of strips of highly electrically conductive material which are arranged to form a continuous loop around the core window. The shields are disposed parallel to the laminations of the magnetic core and adjacent the top and bottom surfaces of the core. Current induced in the shields by the leakage flux from the windings produces an opposing flux which prevents substantially all of the winding leakage flux from entering the magnetic core.
