Patent number: 8381839Abstract: A bottom-hole assembly for directional drilling incorporates a torque generator with a drive shaft connected to a drill string. The torque generator generates a torque that counters a reactive torque when a drill bit of the bottom-hole assembly is driven. When the drill string is rotated at a static drive speed, a drill tool face of the bottom-hole assembly is stabilized to drill a nonlinear bore segment. When the drill string is rotated at a rotational speed other than the static drive speed the bottom-hole assembly is rotated to drill a linear bore segment.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 2010Date of Patent: February 26, 2013Assignee: Rugged Engineering Designs, Inc.Inventor: Irwin Rosenhauch

Patent number: 7967086Abstract: A slip spool includes radially disposed actuators for radially moving slip blocks between a loose encirclement position in which they surround the tubing string and a cached position in which the slip blocks clear an axial passage of the slip spool. The slip spool further includes axially disposed actuators for axially displacing the slip blocks between the loose encirclement position and an engagement position in which the slip blocks are seated within a slip bowl of the slip spool so that a weight of the suspended tubing string causes the slip blocks to tightly grip the tubing string. The slip spool facilitates positioning and repositioning of the tubing string in the wellbore and can be used for supporting or snubbing a tubing string in a live well bore.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 2010Date of Patent: June 28, 2011Assignee: Stinger Wellhead Protection, Inc.Inventors: Bob McGuire, L. Patent number: 5293945Abstract: A downhole adjustable stabilizer and method are disclosed for use in a well bore and along a drill string having a bit at the lower end thereof. A plurality of stabilizer blades are radially movable with respect to the stabilizer body, with outward movement of each stabilizer blade being in response to a radially movable piston positioned inwardly of a corresponding blade and subject to the pressure differential between the interior of the stabilizer and the well bore. A locking member is axially movable from an unlocked position to a locked position, such that the stabilizer blades may be locked in either their retracted or expanded positions. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the stabilizer may be sequenced from a blade expanded position to a blade retracted position by turning on and off a mud pump at the surface.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1991Date of Patent: March 15, 1994Assignee: Baroid Technology, Inc.Inventors: Irwin Rosenhauch, Laurier E. Comeau

Patent number: 4372527Abstract: A blowout preventer comprises a housing with a pair of opposed rams carrying sealing blocks for sealing against tubing extending through the housing. Openings in the front side of the housing provide access to the sealing blocks for changing the blocks and a door closes the openings during normal in-service use of the preventer. A door guide permits the door to be slid in either of two opposing edgewise directions for exposing the openings one at a time but keeps the door from being movable substantially in a broadwise direction. Sealing inserts disposed within the openings between the door and the sealing blocks serve to seal against leakage and a rack and pinion mechanism provides the means for sliding the door from a centered position closing both openings to opposite edgewise positions exposing one or the other of the openings.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 1980Date of Patent: February 8, 1983Assignee: Dresser Industries, Inc.Inventors: Irwin Rosenhauch, Gary D. Patent number: 4341264Abstract: A wellhead shearing apparatus suitable for use on oil and gas wells having hydrogen sulfide. The apparatus includes a body with a vertical bore and opposed guideways extending from the bore. A ram assembly with two rams, means for moving each ram in the guideways together with the bore for shearing pipe in the bore and apart for other well operations. One ram has an upper cutting blade and the other ram has a lower cutting blade, which has a hard metal insert providing its cutting edge and the upper cutting blade has a hard cutting edge. The rams are of steel having a maximum hardness of 24 to 26 Rockwell C and the insert has substantially greater hardness. The hard cutting edges of both blades are isolated from the sour gas when the blades are under stress as a result of sealing across the vertical bore.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1980Date of Patent: July 27, 1982Assignee: Cameron Iron Works, Inc.Inventors: Fern H.
