Patent number: 11965133Abstract: A hydrocarbon feed stream may be processed by a method that may include catalytically cracking a hydrocarbon feed stream in a counter-current reactor to produce a first effluent stream, and processing a portion or all of the first effluent stream by at least one or more separations. The at least one or more separations may form at least a second effluent stream including at least 95 wt. % C4-C6 hydrocarbons, and a third effluent stream including at least 95 wt. % of ethane, propane, or a combination thereof. In some embodiments, the method may further include catalytically cracking a portion or all of the second effluent stream in a second reactor to form a second reactor effluent stream, combining a portion of all of the second reactor effluent stream with the first effluent stream, steam cracking a portion or all of the third effluent stream to form a steam cracked effluent stream, and combining a portion or all of the steam cracked effluent stream with the first effluent.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 2022Date of Patent: April 23, 2024Assignees: Saudi Arabian Oil Company, King Abdullah University of Science and TechnologyInventors: Khalid Ali Almajnouni, Shatha Ali Alabbad, Abdulelah Alghadeer, Ola Ali, Isidoro Morales Osorio, Abdennour Bourane, Wei Xu, Jorge Gascon Sabate, Jullian Vittenet, Mohammed Alabdullah, Alberto Rodriguez-Gomez, Marcus John Killingworth

Patent number: 11319490Abstract: An integrated method for mesophase pitch and petrochemicals production. The method including supplying crude oil to a reactor vessel; heating the crude oil in the reactor vessel to a predetermined temperature for a predetermined amount of time; reducing asphaltene content in the crude oil by allowing polymerization reactions to occur in the reactor vessel at an elevated pressure in the absence of oxygen; producing a three-phase upgraded hydrocarbon product comprising gas, liquid, and solid hydrocarbon components, where the liquid hydrocarbon component comprises deasphalted oil and the solid hydrocarbon component comprises mesophase pitch; separating the gas, liquid, and solid hydrocarbon components; directly utilizing the liquid hydrocarbon component for petrochemicals production; and directly utilizing the solid hydrocarbon component for carbon artifact production.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 2021Date of Patent: May 3, 2022Assignees: SAUDI ARABIAN OIL COMPANY, KING ABDULLAH UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYInventors: Remi Mahfouz, Ola Ali, Isidoro Morales Osorio, Wei Xu, Xinglong Dong, Yu Han

Publication number: 20220033714Abstract: Light olefins may be produced from hydrocarbons by a method including passing a hydrocarbon feed stream into a feed inlet of a reactor. The reactor may include an upper reactor portion defining an upper reaction zone and a lower reactor portion defining a lower reaction zone. The catalyst may move in a generally downward direction through the upper reactor portion and the lower reactor portion, and the hydrocarbon feed stream may move in a generally upward direction through the upper reactor portion and lower reactor portion such that the hydrocarbon feed stream and the catalyst move with a counter-current orientation. Contacting the catalyst with the hydrocarbon feed stream may crack one or more components of the hydrocarbon feed stream and form a hydrocarbon product stream. The method may further include passing the hydrocarbon product stream out of the upper reaction zone through the hydrocarbon product outlet.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 28, 2020Publication date: February 3, 2022Inventors: Khalid A. Al-Majnouni, Mohammed Abdulmajeed Al-Daous, Abdulrahman Faroug Almasri, Ahmad Alrefaei, Ola S. Ali, Isidoro Morales Osorio
