  • Publication number: 20070037718
Abstract: Translucent soap compositions comprising soap base and a translucency-enhancing amount of benzoate ester are disclosed. The benzoate ester has the general structure: where R is a C12-C15 Alkyl, an alkyl group of C8 to C20, or a phenylethyl group. The translucent soap composition may further comprise a surfactant, namely, nonoxynol-10 carboxylic acid. Also disclosed is a method of making translucent soap compositions and a method of improving the translucency of opaque, translucent and transparent soap base.

  • Publication number: 20060210520
Abstract: Novel macadamia-lipid based esters, derivatives, surfactants and emollients are disclosed, as well as their use in the production of surface active derivatives or non-surface active esters and ester emollients. The esters, surfactants and fatty derivatives are useful as emollients, dispersants, emulsifiers, and conditioners for hair care and skin care products. For example, derivatives such as amides of Macadamia fatty triglycerides (“MFTG”)/Monoethanolamine; Acyl Amidopropyl Dimethyl Amines of MFTG as cationic surfactants; Betaines based on MFTG; Esters of MFTG based Fatty Acids and Isostearyl alcohol or PPG-3 Myristyl Ether or Ethoxylated C12-C15 Alcohol or Ethoxylated cetearyl alcohol; Quaternaries based on MFTG and Amino-propyl Dimethylamine; Sulfosuccinates based on MFTG-MEA Amides; and sulfosuccinates based on MFTG-Isopropanolamines have been prepared. Derivatives may also include those involving other reactive groups known to those skilled in the art.

  • Publication number: 20050288205
Abstract: Phenylethyl benzoate for use in antiperspirant compositions, as well as an emollient additive, is disclosed. Personal care compositions such as antiperspirants, shampoos and hair conditioners comprising phenylethyl benzoate in the amount of from about 0.5% to about 50% by weight of the composition are disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20050014961
Abstract: Novel benzoate, octanoate, and maleate esters of branched monomethyl C16-C17 alcohols, their process of manufacture and their use as a cosmetic ingredient for toiletry and cosmetic formulations is disclosed. The esters are useful for cosmetics and personal care cleansing products, such as skin and hair care products, and soaps.

  • Patent number: 6635775
Abstract: An improved process for preparing reduced-odor or odorless esters, preferably benzoate esters, octanoate esters, aliphatic emollient esters and glycol dibenzoate esters. The improved process comprises, in part, removing the esterification catalyst from the crude ester after the esterification reaction is substantially complete, before neutralization of acidity. The resultant ester compositions are odorless or have substantially reduced odor as compared to commercially available esters.

  • Patent number: 5959130
Abstract: Compositions of matter comprising castor-based benzoate esters, including benzoate esters of castor oil, benzoate esters of hydrogenated castor oil, benzoate esters of cetyl ricinoleate, and benzoate esters of octyl hydroxy stearate. The benzoate esters of ricinoleic acid and hydroxy stearic acid are double esters having a fatty acid group at the respective --COOH group and a benzoate group at the --OH group. The benzoate esters are useful as vehicles or carriers, emollients or solubilizers for toiletry, cosmetic, hair and skin care formulations.

  • Patent number: 4791097
Abstract: A method is provided for modifying foam in an aqueous surfactant composition. The method comprises admixing with the aqueous surfactant composition a foam modifying amount of a composition of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is: (a) a branched or linear alkyl of 20 to 28 carbon atoms; or(b) ##STR2## wherein n is 9-16 and R.sub.1 is a branched or linear alkyl of 3 to 22 carbon atoms.Certain of these benzoate esters are novel, in particular: ##STR3## wherein R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are each, independently, an alkyl of 4 to 16 carbon atoms, and the total number of carbon atoms in R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 is at least 12 carbon atoms. Preferably, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are each C.sub.8 H.sub.17, i.e. octyldodecyl benzoate ester.Additional novel benzoate esters used as foam enhancers have the formula: ##STR4## wherein n is 12 to 16 and R.sub.1 is a branched or linear alkyl of 3 to 22 carbon atoms. Particularly preferred esters are when n is 14, R.sub.1 is C.sub.18 H.sub.37 and R.sub.1 is C.sub.4 H.sub.9.
