  • Patent number: 8805658
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer-readable media are disclosed herein for virtually planning a cranial guided surgery in a subject. These include, in some embodiments, generating a first data set based on input data obtained of a physical reference structure having a defined fixed relation to a bone structure of said subject and generating a second data set based on input data obtained of a master structure for a surgical template, where the master structure has a defined relation to said physical reference structure. Further, in some embodiments, a third data set for production of said surgical template can be generated based on the first data set and the second data set, wherein the relation of said physical reference structure to said master structure is preserved.

  • Publication number: 20130266913
Abstract: The application relates to an implant for insertion into a structure, a method for connecting a superstructure to the implant, and a kit comprising the implant and a superstructure. The implant comprises a body having an external surface for apposition to bone, an apical end and a coronal end, an insertion interface at the coronal end for engagement with an insertion tool and for inserting the implant in an insertion direction, a connection interface adapted to connect the implant to an connection interface of a superstructure, and a retraction interface for engagement with a retraction member when the superstructure is positioned for connection to the connection interface and being configured for retracting the implant from an applied position in a retraction direction. A gap between the connection interface of the implant and the connection interface of the superstructure may be at least reduced by retracting the implant towards the superstructure.

  • Patent number: 8540510
Abstract: The application relates to a device and a method for securing a dental implant in the bone tissue of a patient. The device can comprise a guide sleeve and a holder. The guide sleeve can have an interlock portion and a central bore having an internal thread. The holder can hold the dental implant and be configured to be inserted into the central bore of the guide sleeve. The holder can comprise an external thread that is configured to engage the internal thread of the guide sleeve such that the holder may threadingly engage the guide sleeve. The holder can further comprise a limit stop that can be configured to contact the guide sleeve for limiting the longitudinal position of the holder relative to the guide sleeve. The holder can releasably retain the dental implant and facilitate implantion of the implant into the bone tissue of the patient.

  • Patent number: 8303303
Abstract: An arrangement for determining position and fixation of an element relative to a part in or on a bone or a model of a bone. An expansion spacer extends through a sleeve. The spacer includes a first flange engages a first end of the sleeve and a second flange engages a second end of the sleeve when the spacer is expanded to vertically fix the spacer relative to the sleeve. An expansion screw extends through the spacer and includes an outer conical expansion surface configured to cooperate with an inner conical expansion surface on the spacer to radially expand the spacer causing the outer surface on the spacer to engage the inner surface of the sleeve, thereby determining the position of the sleeve relative to the part and fixing the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 8186999
Abstract: A system comprises a computer appliance designed to receive, and to present on screen, first information transmitted from identification equipment and based on detection of a jaw bone structure. Modification information which can be introduced into the computer appliance shows a visual dental bridge structure applied on the jaw bone structure with associated teeth and dentine. Orientations for implants are also shown. The computer appliance produces a CAD file which is based on the first information and the modification information. The file is received in a stereolithography machine which issues second information which can be processed in the equipment for production of the physical template which includes through-bores for sleeves which define implant orientation. A working model is produced with the aid of the physical template. The invention also relates to an arrangement of a template produced by stereolithography and by means of information from the computer appliance.

  • Patent number: 8157563
Abstract: A guide device is provided that can interact with a number of sleeves of a tooth template. The guide device can include a handle part, a support part, and a guide part. The handle part can include first and second parts. The first part can be connectable to the second part, and the second part can include a space having a variable size. The variable size of the space can be determined by the position of the first part relative to the second part. The supporting part can be sized and configured to engage the space of the handle for allowing selective positioning of the supporting part relative to the handle part. The guide part can be connectable to the supporting part with the guide part being operative to align a tool for use in the dental treatment.

  • Patent number: 8142189
Abstract: An apparatus includes a template which locates hole positions in a jawbone while the template is separated from the jawbone by gum tissue. The template follows a contour of the gum tissue surrounding the jawbone and has guide holes which receive a cutting tool. Anchoring elements attach the template to the jawbone. A system includes means for scanning an implantation site on a patient's jawbone, simulating the implantation site, and determining nerve-rich areas or nerve paths in the jawbone. A holed template is produced which is separated from the jawbone by at least gum tissue of the patient. Attachment hole positions in the jawbone are located so as to avoid nerve paths. A method of forming holes to attach a dental implant to a patient's jaw bone without surgical intervention in gum tissue of the patient to expose the jawbone is disclosed which avoids impingement on a nerve path.

  • Patent number: 7665989
Abstract: A drill is used on a jaw bone with overlying soft tissue and underlying, more solid bone. The drill comprises a first portion which is provided with one or more first cutting edges and with a first width or diameter. Arranged behind the first portion there is a second portion which is provided with one or more second cutting edges and with a second diameter exceeding the first width or diameter. The first portion can cooperate with soft tissues to form an initial hole, and the second portion can cooperate with the soft tissue and the more solid bone in order to enlarge said hole and create a countersunk hole in the more solid bone. The first portion is also depicted to cooperate with the more solid bone, during the second portion's formation of the countersunk hole, in order to provide a guidance hole or marker hole in the bottom of the countersink.

  • Patent number: RE43584
Abstract: In a method and arrangement for allocating prosthetic installation work between at least three parties (A, B, C) a dental situation and fixture application are simulated on a computer screen by the first party. The second party produces first components in connection with the prosthetic installation with the aid of a recording and said simulation. Second components are supplied by the third party (C) and the prosthetic installation is assembled and fitted by the first party by means of said first and second components. The recording includes first and second readings of a loose prosthesis and a portion supporting the prosthetic insallation. The simulation includes collation of representations of the readings on a computer screen. Simulated fixture applications are constructed and a model is produced by one of said parties, or a fourth party. An assembly template guides hole-forming members in an actual substrate in directions which correspond to the directions of the fixtures.
