  • Patent number: 5423348
Abstract: In accordance with an illustrative embodiment of a high pressure water blast gun as disclosed herein, such gun includes a valve body having inlet and outlet ports and an internal chamber, and a removable valve cartridge in the chamber which includes a guide tube and a valve closure element slidably arranged in the tube. The closure element includes a leading end portion having a peripheral edge that engages an inclined seat surface in the guide tube with line contact on a first diameter, and a trailing end portion which is sealed against the guide tube on a second diameter which is greater than the first diameter to provide a hydraulic bias force that tends to close the valve against the seat. Both hand and foot operated embodiments are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4878815
Abstract: A high pressure reciprocating pump has a flange plate or mounting plate secured to the plunger end of a pump drive housing and a suction and discharge manifold is hingedly connected thereto. A stuffing box in bores in the flange plate has a central bore receiving one end of the plunger and forming a plunger pressure chamber coaxial with the plunger. A tapered packing assembly in the stuffing box surrounds the plunger in reciprocal sealing relation. A suction and discharge valve cartridge in one or more valve cavities in the manifold block is coaxial with the plunger. The hinged connection clamps the stuffing box in the flange plate for pivotal movement permitting clear access to the stuffing box and the valve cartridges whereby either may be removed as a unit for easy field maintenance. The valve cartridge comprises a common seat member with a suction valve and a discharge valve movably mounted thereon coaxial with the plunger and positioned concentric and radially spaced on the seat.

  • Patent number: 4858828
Abstract: A multi-gun control valve apparatus for use in controlling a high pressure fluid in a multiple dump-style gun fluid blast system, the apparatus including a valve cartridge assembly, with a pressure throttling member and an adjusting assembly. The apparatus maintains system pressure when any of the guns are dumping fluid rather than blasting. The adjusting assembly includes a spring-biased plunger to bias the valve closure member into a partially closed or throttling position when a gun is dumping, thereby causing a pressure drop across the closure member. The adjusting assembly is used to manually adjust the clearance between the valve closure member and valve seat while the system is under pressure. High fluid pressure in the fluid line between a dump-style fluid blast gun and the multi-gun control valve opposes the spring-biased plunger and opens the valve closure member to provide free flow through the device when a gun is blasting fluid.

  • Patent number: 4768933
Abstract: A high pressure reciprocating pump is disclosed comprising a cylinder block with a pump chamber into which a pump plunger is reciprocally moved. A packing gland seals the pump plunger against leakage under high pressure. The pump has an inlet manifold on one side and an outlet or discharge manifold at one end secured on said cylinder block. Valve assemblies are positioned between the cylinder block and the inlet and outlet manifolds respectively. Each valve assembly comprises a disc-shaped cylindrical seat element with a central bore and a seat. A groove in the seat end surrounds the valve seating surface. The other side of the seat disc has a guide lip surrounded by a groove receiving an O-ring seal. A hollow cylindrical retainer cage having a segmented flange at one end is releasably received in the groove surrounding the seating surface with sufficient clearance to receive an O-ring seal.

  • Patent number: 4602740
Abstract: Fluid blast control apparatus for use in controlling a high pressure fluid in a fluid blast system, the apparatus including a body portion having an inlet for a source of fluid at high pressure, having a discharge outlet for the discharge of fluid at high pressure, having a dump outlet for the discharge of fluid at low pressure, and having a control chamber to place the dump outlet in communication with the inlet and the discharge outlet; a valve guide housing removably positioned in the flow chamber, the valve guide housing having a housing bore for housing a valve closure member, having guide means for guiding such a valve closure member during displacement thereof relatively to the valve guide housing, and having a valve seat; and a valve closure member housed in the housing bore, the valve closure member having a closure seat, and the valve closure member being adapted to be displaced relatively to the valve guide housing into a closed position for the closure seat to seat on the valve seat to control flo
