  • Publication number: 20040037751
Abstract: Electromagnetic energy the microwave range, radio frequency range or a combination of both frequencies may be used to treat poultry litter or other animal wastes to remove or reduce pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, etc. that affect animal and human health. The treatment may be applied to the litter as well as to the floor upon which the litter is setting. The preselected amount and type of energy applied by radio frequency and microwave frequency depends upon the conditions of the litter and floor such as thickness, material, moisture content and length and of intensity of use of the litter. The litter may be treated in place on the floor to avoid contamination caused by moving the litter from the floor and into a treatment chamber.

  • Patent number: 5060414
Abstract: A method and device for vegetation control. More particularly a technique of a plurality of steps in the application of electromagnetic fields of two or more selected but different frequencies, at least one in the ratio frequency range being first applied followed by application of others in the microwave region, to the area in which vegetation is to be controlled.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 20, 1989
Date of Patent: October 29, 1991
    Inventor: J. Robert Wayland
  • Patent number: 4891969
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the determination of the ratio of components in a multicomponent liquid mixture such as oil and water. The apparatus including a conduit for flow of fluid, a first temperature sensing thermocouple, a plurality of plates disposed in said conduit to uniformly mix the liquid, a microwave energy generator, a second temperature sensing thermocouple downstream of the microwave generator and a flow measuring meter.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 7, 1988
Date of Patent: January 9, 1990
    Inventors: J. Robert Wayland, Caroline H. Persson-Reeves
  • Patent number: 4658208
Abstract: An empirical method for the remote sensing of steam quality that can be easily adapted to downhole steam quality measurements by measuring the electrical properties of two-phase flow across electrode grids at low frequencies.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 19, 1985
Date of Patent: April 14, 1987
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the United States Department of Energy
Inventors: David O. Lee, Paul C. Montoya, James F. Muir, J. Robert Wayland, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4616184
Abstract: The depth to and size of an underground object may be determined by sweeping a CSAMT signal and locating a peak response when the receiver spans the edge of the object. The depth of the object is one quarter wavelength in the subsurface media of the frequency of the peak.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 27, 1984
Date of Patent: October 7, 1986
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the United States Department of Energy
Inventors: David O. Lee, Paul C. Montoya, J. Robert Wayland, Jr.
