  • Patent number: 4616864
Abstract: A fastener 1 has two elongate bars 2,3 slidably mounted in a guide track 4 for simultaneous displacement longitudinally thereof in opposite directions under the action of a rotatable handle 6. Each bar 2,3 has an associated rack and pinion assembly 7,8 for transposing rotation of the handle 6 into linear displacement of the bar.

  • Patent number: 4500122
Abstract: A fastener for sliding doors or windows comprises one or more bolt assemblies 8 having spring loaded bolts with heads 15 mounted in housing set into the stile 7. The fastener also comprises a receiver assembly 9 including a pair of rails 23,24 having similar aligned key-hole openings 25,26 respectively. The outer retainer rail 23 is slidable relative to the inner rail by operation of an actuator 27 controlled by a handle assembly 10. When the bolt heads 15 are received in the aligned openings 25,26 on closing of the stile 7 to the jamb, the handle 29 of the assembly 10 is turned causing the retainer rail 23 to move downwards to trap the heads 15 of the bolt in the narrower parts of each opening 25 in the retainer rail 23. The handle assembly 10 preferably includes a lock to prevent the handle 20 being rotated after locking. The spring loaded bolts provide a "buffer" action and prevent damage to the receiver assembly even if in the fastening position.

  • Patent number: 4463976
Abstract: In a casement window, the casement fastener comprises a pivotal lever handle 5 mounted on the sash 2 through a plate 7 and a keeper 6 mounted on the casement frame 1. The keeper 6 has two similar lugs 14,15 symmetrically disposed lengthwise of the keeper plate 11. The lever handle 5 has an abutment face 10 to engage either lug 14,15 for fastening the sash, and a through slot 9 in which either lug 14,15 may be received to hold the sash in a ventilating position. The fastener may be used for right or left hinged sashes, and by the special form of keeper and handle, the fastener can be used for any required attitude of installation without concern for specially handed keepers or lever handles.

  • Patent number: 4414706
Abstract: A friction stay for a window has mounting plates 1,3 for connection to the window frame and sash (not shown) with the plates being connected by pivotal arms 5,8. There is provided a coupling 13 in one arm which connects two link parts 11 and 12 of the arm together. The coupling 13 includes two resilient elements 16,17 which are arranged to be compressed under loads applied longitudinally of the arm on pivotal movement of the stay in use. The elements 16,17 effectively store energy and release this on folding of the stay to apply a pull-in force to the sash to hold it closed to the frame. The coupling 13 includes a connector plate 14 which by a rivet 22 couples and locates the ends of the link parts 11,12 together for relative movement with the resilient elements 16,17 being interposed between the plate 14 and opposed link parts. Other forms of resilient coupling are described in further embodiments.

  • Patent number: 4278306
Abstract: A roller assembly for supporting sliding doors on a track or rail comprises a plurality of short rollers (10) which are confined to run around an oval track (9a) formed in a two part housing (7). Some of the rollers (10) are engageable with the track through an elongate slot (13) in the base of the housing (7) so that load is distributed over several rollers. The housing (7) is mounted for adjustment in a carrier (5) which can be mounted on a door. The adjustment permits variations in height or levels to be accommodated.

  • Patent number: 4195681
Abstract: A fly screen for windows and doors comprising fly netting extending over one face of a rectangular frame with the marginal edge of the netting located in a recess in the frame and a wedge strip received in the recess over the fly netting to clamp and retain the fly netting in position. The fly screen may include mounting means for locating fly screen on an existing door or window or the fly screen may include separate mounting means for the frame whereby the fly screen can be mounted to cover an aperture. The fly screen frame comprises four frame elements formed as extrusions of the appropriate section which are cut to length with the adjacent ends being connected by corner cleats so that the fly screen frame can be assembled to suit any size of window or door. The fly netting comprises a material which can be easily cut such as plastic coated fiber-glass.
