  • Patent number: 4460308
Abstract: A system for loading coal or other particles into railroad cars wherein every other railroad car is designated an EVEN railroad car and the remaining every other railroad cars are designated ODD railroad cars. Each EVEN railroad car is weighed after being filled with coal and before the initiation of the loading of coal into the next EVEN railroad car to determine a filled weight. The filled weight of each EVEN railroad car is compared to a predetermined control weight and, in response to this determination, the termination of the loading of coal into the next EVEN railroad car controllably is varied to bring the filled weight closer to control weight. In a like manner, each ODD railroad car is weighed after being filled with coal and before the initiation of the loading of coal into the next ODD railroad car to determine a filled weight.

  • Patent number: 4262964
Abstract: The present invention contemplates a system for detecting an interface between a mineral seam and the surrounding earth formation utilizing a radiation source and a radiation receiver mounted on a miner having a positionable cutter assembly. As the miner is moved into the coal seam, a first distance is continuously sensed between one surface formed in the mineral seam by the miner cutter assembly and the surrounding earth formation and the miner cutter assembly is positioned in response to the sensed first distance. As the miner is withdrawn from the coal seam, a second distance is continuously sensed between one surface formed in the mineral seam by the miner cutter assembly and the surrounding earth formation and the miner cutter assembly is positioned in response to the sensed second distance.

  • Patent number: 4093936
Abstract: A logging method and apparatus for measuring parameters of an earth formation near a borehole wherein a first downhole logging device is connected to a first surface measuring apparatus via a coaxial cable in a first mode of operation of the logging apparatus and wherein a second downhole logging device is connected to a second surface measuring apparatus and to a surface power supply via the coaxial cable in a second mode of operation of the logging apparatus, the second downhole logging device being connected to the coaxial cable in response to the surface power supply being connected to the coaxial cable.
